I had my first successful BRG this morning. When I view my confirmation online now, it shows the rate as 1 EUR per night. Do all BRGs show this as a default rate and the actual hotel knows what to charge me.....or did the Best Rate Guarantee Specialist mess up?

It's normal for it to show up as $1.00 or 1 Eur. In my experience, only 2 properties (which I believe are operated by the same folks) have left the rate at $1.00.
95% of my BRGs have been charged correctly. The other 4-4.5%, I've had to show proof or follow up afterwards.
Magarita Girl, may I ask why are points usually chosen over $?
Points are generally worth more than the additional discount. However, if you are travelling somewhere, and the exchange rate is awful, then you may want to consider offsetting it w/ the discount. YMMV.

Unless I'm staying multiple nights on an expensive rate, I always choose the points. Once I had a 7 night stay at the Westin Palace in MAD for 180 Euros/night. I chose 10% off!

+1, I do this in Japan when I do find a BRG.

SPG's BRG is a joke
I don't know how long you guys get your response back. Mine took 18 hours!
You know what, 18 hours can happen a lot of things, and no wonder the lady claimed my BRG is not approved due to "unavailability" of the other online booking website.
In most cases I did BRG, I got a response within 3-5 hours, but 18 hours, totally unbelievable!
Granted I have not a BRG in a while, however, a claim of mine was recently accepted for the Sheraton Rockville which was showing as $89 on SPG and $79 on Hotels.com, however, I was advised to just bring in the confirming e-mail from the BRG desk to have the rate adjusted downwards and that afterwards, the 2,000 points would appear in my account.
Is this new?
Previously, the rate was adjusted downwards by the BRG desk themselves, so that the hotel already knew that the price was supposed to be adjusted when I arrived.
Can someone opine whether this is the new procedure, or if not, should I again contact the BRG desk to ask why the change on this property?

Usually the rate is adjusted by the hotel, and then they send the updated reservation to the guest. If they have not updated the rate, bringing the email from BRG desk will help, or you can call the hotel directly prior to checkin to verify the new rate, to avoid the discussion time wasted at the front desk during checkin out checkout time.

In my recent BRG experiences, the properties did not care if I had the E-mail or not.

OK thanks. Won't waste my time on any more BRGs then. Wonder if I should cancel my 8 outstanding BRG reservations.

That procedure has been in place as long as I've been doing BRGs. My experience is if your reservation on the SPG website has been adjusted (lately it shows a rate of $1 for BRGs), you won't be asked for any documentation. If the rate has not been adjusted, bring your paperwork as you will need it!
