Arrow Atlanta Perimeter Hotel & Suites (formerly W Hotel) [Master Thread]

http://www.watlantaperimeter.com/transition

How many other Starwood properties are called Independent Hotels and are not a Westin, W, Element, etc? I only new of one and that was Planet Hollowood. I am just curious if there are others?

And does this move mean we will still receive the same Platinum benefits when staying?

It says right on that page that the hotel will continue to participate in SPG, so yes, you are entitled to your platinum benefits.

Basically, the hotel is being de-branded as a W. I guess the mostly suites concept doesn't really fit with the W brand, yet we still have the W Silicon Valley in Newark, CA? I've never stayed at this property, maybe the master thread for it will be more revealing as to why it's being de-branded.

There are a few others, the biggest one is the Manhattan Hotel and Towers, which was de-branded from Sheraton last year because it wasn't up to Sheraton's standards, and Sheraton went through a fairly extensive brand renovation last year.

I guess if you really want to know how many, you can look through the properties listed in the FAQ?

Stayed there a few times - pretty sad excuse for a W. Sure, was easy to get huge suites, but they were pretty old. Clear from the exterior this was an old Days Inn or whatever and was turned over. Internet speed was glacial, gym is tiny, charges $12/day parking in a suburban area where parking is plentiful.

Nearby Westin much better IMO.

Thanks, that would explain the de-branding.

This is similar to the Sheraton Manhattan being stripped of the Sheraton brand.

It's hard for Starwood to show off the 3 expensive new W's around Atlanta when this oldest W is still in the area, too. This is a smart move, IMO. Might it be remodeled to become a Sheraton?

Planet Hollywood started without a Starwood brand when it first joined SPG, but it later was accepted into the Sheraton brand as something like "Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino, A Sheraton Hotel."

I was just unaware that they are many of these Independent Starwood properties.

never stayed there but you'd be hard-pressed to find another W hotel in the country for some of the lower prices they charged. Perimeter, itself, is a very affordable place to stay in the A.

A little sad

I agree that with the other three Ws in town it's hard to make a case for Perimeter, still I am going to miss it.

I had some great stays there, even threw my vow renewal and hosted all of my guests there. (Obviously I could afford this because of the low low rates).

These days, I had been catching great $79 deals and spending the weekend there even though I only live 10 miles away.

I don't think I will frequent the new rebranded hotel. I am just going to have to ante up and spend the extra $$$ to stay at one of the other Ws like *wood wants me to.

Oh well, gonna miss this one, but I still have my memories

No loss, this. Stayed here first back as soon as it opened in 1999 (may even be a trip report on here from then ) Wasn't impressed at the view at Perimeter Mall and the General Cinema twin-plex (obviously area has changed a lot in 12 years). My parents stayed here and liked it, though, in the 2004 time-frame.

Correct. This place is not some dream resort, but it is cheap, clean, W beds, and they treat Plats great. Oh did I mention W beds?

Actually, I am a little sad that it will be de-branded, year after year every visit, I would think to myself how much abuse the facility has taken. Now if I had to be North Perimeter, I made the choice to stay at the Marietta Hyatt Suites or the Westin (if I had others with me).

Was at the W Perimeter this weekend. Upgraded to a Wow Suite with a AAA breakfast package for $114.

Most of the staff seem to be looking forward to the independent branding. They said I will still get the same great service minus the W name.

Will probably convert to Sheraton or Sheraton Suites down the line. The current Sheraton in the market is more like a Four Points.

Did anyone confirm that this was due to not being up to snuff on the W brand? The reason I ask is that the W silicon valley is IMHO much dumpier and ill-deserving of the brand name than Atlanta perimeter. If they really want to investigate the brand collection in Atlanta, they should turn that Westin tower into a 4P.

Thats the truth. Westin Peachtree is the worst of all spg properties in Atlanta.
