If I am automatically SPG Gold because of Amex Platinum card but currently attained Platinum on a challenge, do I have to hit the same number of nights/stays as everyone else to re-qualify for SPG Platinum every year or is there some benefit for Amex Plat SPG Gold, such as complimentary qualifying nights to requalify?
having the spg amex gives you a 2 stay or 5 night credit towards elite status so having the card basically allows you to become plat after 23 stays or 45 nights. Other than that, I don't believe there are any complimentary qualifying nights to reach status.
That was the original quote from my status challenge mail from the Platinum Concierge in July.
So, I am a bit concerned...
DONE.
It is days, as hoped for.
Qualified on Aug 25. Sent mail to Platinum Concierge. Also mentioned per Online Chat. Rceived account update on Aug 25/night. Quite fast, but late for Aug 25 check-in in China. Account updates are only done by the US team. Still got the bonus points and lounge access in the morning.
So, I jumped to do the Platinum challenge..i already had half the stays booked, so figured I could find other little trips or mattress runs to finish it out...plus, i might get some stays with my job in the next three months. Question...i am in DFW, wondering what is the best day to look for a cheap hotel for a mattress run? I realize a lot is based on availability, but in my little bit of searching, it seems that friday nights seem to be discounted pretty well, but during the week (hitting the business travelers), it is more expensive. Any theories into this? Hoping for some cheap hotel rooms over Thanksgiving as well...most hotels are dead so they go really cheap. Thanks for the info.

Yeah...that seems to be the best option.
Before asking SPG, does anybody know if I book a deal where I buy two nights, get a third free, does that third free night count towards eligible nights? The T&C's are a little vague on that area. Thank you.

They count as three nights. The revenue taken in for two nights is spread over a three-night period.

Having worked in the hotel business, Sundays were usually the best nights for a cheap rate - at least in the bigger cities. The weekend revelers had checked out and the business people usually waited until Monday to check in. Also, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day offer some of the cheapest rates during the year. The occupancy on those two days is often well below 10%.
I called the SPG helpline to enroll in the platinum stay challenge, and was informed that I should contact them only after I have completed my 15 eligible stays in 90 days. Can someone please confirm that this is correct, as I was under the impression that I had to be enrolled in the challenge before completing my 15 nights.

Can you please confirm that free nights (including cash and points and free night certificates) will now be included in the platinum challenge 15 nights? I called SPG and they confirmed this, however, wanted to double check. This is due to the new changes that just took place on October 1 where free nights are now included towards status.

william has confirmed multiple times in the thread below that only paid nights will count towards the platinum challenge....

all challenges are pretty easy, doesn't matter which chain....marriott, hilton, spg, hyatt will all offer you anywhere from 7 stays to 15 nights in order to get top status in their program....
