Momentarily interested but the first night must be in a suite at rack rate... $1400+ for the two nights I checked in SF...

Not exactly a thrifty crowd.

Out of curiosity, looked at Lhasa suite.
CNY 30K is too much, even with second night free.

Lowest rate for 1 night at the St. Regis Princeville, Kauai is $1625. Hardly reasonable even with the second night free.

as such, prices will obviously vary from your regular room. still, st. regis bangkok has the st. regis suite at 55.000 THB for this promo, regular rate should be below the metropolitan suite which goes for 80.000 THB at the promotional rate or 18.400 THB at BAR - i guess it's just some attention bait...

or did anyone find a suite where it really played out to be a promotion in the regular sense?

A problem is that at most properties I checked, select standard suites are not on the list (before searching for specific dates), such as the three in China. An exception is Atlanta-Buckhead, which does list the St R (probably not select standard, but at least not a specialty suite such as Presidential, etc.) suite, although here the promo isn't available at all for a few random dates.

Just tried out the St regis San Fran and I got 1600 USD for first night (Metropolitan Suite). (1604 USD for two nights).

Tried another promo rate and got 1600 for a three night stay but on a one catagory lower suite (Astor).

Yeah, agreed, initially an intriguing promo until the price of the first night is revealed, especially considering that it isn't unusual to get a comp Plat upgrade to an Astor Suite in SFO even when you’re paying a sane rate for a standard room.
