Lightbulb PROMO: Every Night Counts (2X or 3X points) Sept 8 - Dec 15 2010

We were impressed with the detective work of some Flyertalkers to discover the details on the next promotion. For formality purposes, I'm now officially announcing SPG's Every Night Counts promotion. From September 8 through December 15, 2010, registered members can earn Double or Triple Starpoints on all their stays with no limits on their bonus earnings. Here is how the bonusing works:

• Earn Double Starpoints - starting with your first night - if you stay up to 9 nights during the promotion
• Stay 10 or more nights during the promotion and earn Triple Starpoints on all your nights

Nights can be accumulated across stays and members can earn at over 850 participating properties worldwide across all 9 hotel brands. SPG has launched a coming soon page where you can review FAQ's, offer details, and the participating property list. Go to spg.com/everynightcounts to check it out.

Registration starts on September 8 and continues through October 31, but feel free to book stays now.

Let me know if you have any questions. Upon request, here is a list of non-participating properties:

William,

Thanks for the official announcement. I have a quick question regarding participating properties. Any idea how these were decided. I stay every week in New York City and notice that none of the W's, the Westin, or the Sheraton are included in the promotion. Any idea why? Thanks for your help.

Yes. All SPG-participating properties were given the option to participate and the ones you see on the participating properties list for this promotion are the ones that opted in. What specifically drove any particular property to not opt in, I have no way of knowing, but these are the ones that are playing this round.

Maybe because they have the 3,000 point Sunday night bonus, which is pretty generous (if you can swing Sunday nights).

William, is there any disincentive for a property to participate? Does it cost the property something to be a part of these promotions?

I got a question: Let's say I stay at an SPG hotel from 9/5 to 9/10, would the nights between 9/8 and 9/10 count for this promotion?

That's an impossible question for me to answer. Only an individual property could decide if an opportunity to earn incrementally more business/loyalty is a disincentive.

There is always a cost associated with offering a promotion. After all, Starpoints aren't free. Somebody has to pay for them.

That's the way I read the FAQ.

If I check in before September 8 or check out after December 15, do any of my nights earn a bonus?

For stays where one or more of the nights are outside the promotion period, members will earn bonus Starpoints for eligible spend across the entire stay, not just the nights during the earning period. However, only the nights that fall between September 8 and December 15, 2010, will count toward the 10-night accumulation needed to earn Triple Starpoints.

To me, this means that you'll get Double (maybe even Triple Starpoints eventually) for all charges accumulated during such a stay, but only 9/8 and 9/9 will count towards getting you to the 10-night hurdle for earning Triple Starpoints.

This one's interesting because we currently have 7 revenue nights booked within the promo period, with two more nights to book based on currently planned travel. Now I have to decide whether to book those nights as C+P, or to book them as revenue along with one more night somewhere.

I like these conundrums.

But wait! I just found this one in the FAQ. If we pay for our stepson's room in Bangkok (instead of the current C+P we have), this could push us over!
Do multiple rooms under one reservation count as additional nights?
Yes, for this promotion. Multiple rooms under one reservation (provided the member is staying is one of the rooms) will earn bonus Starpoints and will count toward the 10-night threshold needed to earn Triple Starpoints. For example, a member with three rooms for four nights would earn credit for 12 nights toward this promotion only.

Every Night Doesn't Count

I love the irony of a promotion named "Every Night Counts" when not all hotels participate.

Can we start a list of non-participating hotels? e.g. New York Ws, Sheraton Times Square and Parker, Westin Bonaventure

To SPG: It's very annoying to have to check a list of 850 hotels before making each reservation to see if the hotel participates or not.

Flat and disappointed

No WoW factor here.

I have just had a good look at the participating Hotels verses my trips for the promotion period.

NYC- my W's are out
Germany- most Hotels out including my fav , Westin Grand Munich and Sheraton Hannover
Australia-nothing in Sydney for my 5 dayer
Taiwan- very little offered

Sorry but I am underwhelmed , not with the promo but with the list of participating properties.
Such is life.

Well, the Sheraton in Bellevue, WA is participating. ^ Unfortunately it's the only SPG hotel in the State of Washington that IS participating.
