transferring spg points to Amtrak

Hi I wanted to see if I can transfer my spg points to choicerewards points and wanted to know if this woudl work


1. Call spg and transfer all points to amtrak rewards
2. Use amtrak rewards to by choicepoints

Will this work?

It should all work. You'll basically get 3 Choice Privileges points per SPG point. But step 2 is restricted to:

1. Members with current Amtrak Guest Rewards Select or Select Plus status, or
2. Cardholders of the Amtrak Guest Rewards® MasterCard® issued by Chase Bank with an Amtrak travel spend on the card of over $200 per calendar year.

When I called to transfer points today I was informed that:

- the minimum transfer to Amtrak is 5,000 points

- all transfers must be multiples of 5,000 points

This information doesn't appear on SPG's page for Amtrak transfers.
