How does one "prove" you are a HKG resident?
By virtue of only mailing address? Or will *A call your non-*A FFP with details you supply and ask your country of residence?
On top of that, apart from following the regular rules of "how to select an FFP", are there any suggestions as to which *A FFP would be best to take advantage of this promotion?

Any thoughts on which carrier would be best to match to? Seems that Asiana has a 2 year status period... would that be the same for a match? If so, they would be the way to go no?

FWIW, US (NY based), AA EXP here.
Maybe LH?
If you can get a match from AA EXP to HON, you have 2yrs at HON, then soft landings to 2yrs at SEN and finally 2 yrs at FTL
Top tier with LH is more difficult to achieve than OZ so would be a better choice IMHO.
All this assumes you have a HKG ID that you can use.

Reason: HON and SEN in wrong sequence

Is it confirmed that you really do need a HK ID to complete the entire process? Only ask because in some schemes/circles, the "proof of residency" is merely the address.
If you went for M&M, you'd get SEN according to the T&Cs (i.e. lowest rank that equates to *G) then you'd soft land to FTL, not HON (since HON > SEN)?
I was thinking about going for a M&M match since it is very prestigious, but at the same time I'm also thinking which programs I could try and retain my status. OZ is also good but it merely just gives you *G benefits - all the other OZ benefits and redeeming OZ miles are pretty ordinary or less than that. Hence BD seems to stick out in the pack.
Not sure if UA is attractive in any regard, shape or form.
Then there is TK, SK, NZ and AC, although NZ and AC will match to their FFP mid-tier.

Incorrect: The 3 stars (***) on the Hong Kong ID card is only for Hong Kong permanent residents who are also Chinese Citizens at the same time.
It is the "R" (Right to Land) or "A" (Right of Abode) designations that make you a Hong Kong resident.
Many Hong Kong residents are non-Chinese Citizens and don't have the ***.
The way I see it, the HK ID card dosen't prove anything for this Star Alliance promotion. In theory, you can have a HKID and have lived abroad for many years.
Also, some expatriates who have been living in Hong Kong for many years (but less than 7 years to qualify for Permanent Resident status), while they have a HK ID card, don't have the "R" or "A" designations as they are on work permits. It is this group of people who tend to fly a lot.
As such, it looks like that as long as you use your Hong Kong residential address for your frequent flyer membership, and perhaps a Hong Kong phone number (perhaps landline and not mobile phone), then you are fine.
what if I am already a member of one of the *A, can I still get the benefit?
Most likely yes. I don't see how they can correlate you across their many frequent flyer programs, and even if you were to submit a match for the exact same program that you currently belong to, I think the spirit of the program is to match whatever status you have, elsewhere.
