I honestly do not think an HK ID would be necessary since many Hongkongers hold dual citizen/resident status. What if I have a 3* HK ID but live and work in SFO? They will probably need a mailing address as well. Also, it said HK residents, so I don't think you have to be a HK citizen/permanent resident just any resident including expats.
To be precise, gleff in his View From The Wing blog and the guys on the Asiana forum persuaded me that Asiana status should last 4 years!
I can hopefully confirm in a few weeks. Don't blame me if it doesn't!
OZ status is not 4 years. It is up to 4 years. It's 2 years + the time remaining in your status qualifying period. So if you earn your status extremely quickly at the start of your qualifying period, it will be about 4 years. If it takes you almost 2 years to qualify, then your status will be good for just over 2 years. The "up to 4 years" is also for new members or those who don't renew their status each qualifying period. If you're requalifying from already having *G status, your renewal is only 2 years. A bit complicated perhaps, but for the purpose of this thread I'd be willing to bet you'd only get 2 years.
Let's see. 4 years would be a nice perk but 2 years would also do the trick. I only joined the Asiana scheme a couple of weeks ago so I may get the benefit of the full qualifying period.
Just joined OZ FFP. 2 years is not bad either. Hopefully it can be done soon.

OK, my Asiana match has gone through. They ignored my fax for 2 weeks but an e-mail to the contact given on the Status Match website got it done overnight.
They have given me Diamond for 2 years, not the 4 years that I could arguably have had, but 2 years of Star Gold is not to be sniffed at.

Wise up. Put in an address for one of massive mansion blocks in HK and make up a phone number. Your new *G card will get lost in the system and never seen again. In a few months quietly change your address back to your 'real' non-HK address and ask for a new card to be sent out.
What is the process of Star Alliance or Star Alliance airline checking the other status? Do they just want to see a copy of the card or will they call and verify the data?
Also, my address will not work until January 6th. Is it a problem to give it to them yet, meaning, will LH for example mail now or in 6/8 weeks as stated on the link? Do they mail from Frankfurt or from the HKG office?
Do they have Data Protection laws where you live?!
There is nothing they can do except take the black and white copy of your card at face value. This is, of course, problematic when - like BA Silver and BA Gold cards - they are identical apart from colour .....
