RDU-PEK-HKG-RDU in Coach: 747 or 777

Hi,

I've flown BusFirst from EWR/IAD to China a few times. This month, I'm planning a similar trip but I'm looking to bring my large 16 yr old son along for the ride in Coach using miles. (His first trip to Asia)

Question 1 - Is there a difference flying coach on a 747 out of Chicago vs a 777 out of IAD? I'm wondering about comfort ie. width of seats or service?

#2 - If I'm in Business, do you think we could switch seats half way through? Is there a policy on that?

Thanks in advance!

In economy, you want to avoid the UA 744. I would definitely go for the 772.

The FAs usually frown on mid-flight seat swaps. YMMV.

A UA 777 is much more comfortable in E than a 747. Wider seats, personal video, etc. The 777s also have power at each seat, where the 747s might or might not.

As far as switching seats, that's been discussed a lot over the years. The FAs might allow it, but in general, it's not an accepted practice.

744= 747-400
772= 777-200
It's shorthand to differentiate the models.
