And this is new? How many people were accessing the United Clubs for years based on Aegean Gold? The level of outrage here is a day late and a dollar short. It's no different than mileage running.

Earning 20k on Aegean is much harder than lets say earning 35k on AC.

But for years it wasn't, until recently you just had to bank to Aegean on any airline and you were Star Gold for years. Hence why this move by Avianca is hardly new or unexpected.

NH F lounges (quite nice) ? It only has a few things extra from C lounge, far from the quality of its own competitor JL F lounge where there is a sushi chef and free massages.

NH F lounge and OZ F are equally bland !

By the time there is a higher status, UA would have become a 2 class airline, and probably with OZ as well. So there is basically TG F lounge, CA F lounge, and NH F lounge left. I can even bet on TG would not just limit on the spa, the current cook-to-order options from a huge food and drink menus cannot handle large amount of people in the lounge, it would be a nightmare to even order somthing to eat, wait forever for the food to come.

Why would it be diluting? Look at it this way:
Pax pays $2200 to Avianca, gets *G.
Pax buys cheap ticket on other *G carrier
Pax visits lounge, extra luggage, etc. Bill goes to Avianca
So if pax flies a lot, Avianca gets burned. To other *G carriers, it doesn't matter.
To other pax it doesn't matter either except when the Avianca *G gets the upgrade and you don't.

There's a few threads about this on FT, none seem to have the definitive answer. If it is the case then why are most lounge dragons so strict about seeing the card and getting the number in the system?

I recall reading on FT a long time ago that UA had done this. Here's the link:
