Question Eva versus Air China in Premium Economy

I need to fly NYC-SIN in early January 2015 and am trying to decide if I should fly Eva via TPE in premium economy or Air China via PEK in their premium economy.

What do you think? They are both pricing out at about $2200 USD round trip for the dates that I need.

I concur. Beijing international connections suck.

Avoid China connections.

Just curious, what is so bad about a connection in PEK?

PEK: frequent delays, poor lounge, inefficient immigration and customs process.
CA: poor service

I will avoid CA and PEK if possible.

But if transiting, one does not need to go through immigration or customs right?

My mistake on custom. But one still has to go through immigration and security even just transferring through.

At PVG you do have to clear immigrations and customs as a transit pax, not sure about PEK.

PEK is the most delayed major airport in the world. By a large margin.

I can't believe anyone would even want to argue about why PEK should be avoided.

+1. Though if CA is "significantly" cheaper on the same class of service, I "might" consider making a transfer in PEK or PVG. In OP's case since the price is about the same, it's a no-brainer.

I've seen CA flights that are significantly cheaper than the competition... so it's very tempting to transfer through PEK.

What is the min. transfer time I should consider when transiting through PEK?

Not sure about BR, but CA PY is just Y seats with like 2" of extra legroom.

As for connections, they aren't great in PEK, but I've never had problems.

BR has a true PE. 2-4-2 with 38" pitch, amenity kits, noise canceling headphones.

Elite Class

Also for service, CA is reallly really bad. They make it up with nice adverts showing smiling cabin crew but in reality, they can't even crack a smile if you're flying in anything less than Business.

Food is dreadful too.

BR is ++ by a wide margin.

I think I'm one of the few that would say that a PEK transit isn't all that bad, but leave 2 hours min to connect... yes I've done it many times in 20 minutes but there are times when both international connection immigration and security have long lines and take a bit. I've not gotten hit with any serious delays there either surprisingly because PEK certainly has its reputation, I think 60 minutes is my max and that only happened once, otherwise it has been negligible.

Now, to your original question, if they're similarly priced definitely BR. There's nothing about the experience that is not better with BR. CA works regionally for me but long haul they'd be less appealing.
