Fastest RTW ex SFO

I'm curious about the feasibility of a 3 flight RTW on Star Alliance ex SFO with the following constraints:

1. 3 non-stop flights
2. no backtracking.
3. no layovers on the ground crossing midnight (i.e. no stopovers)

Not looking to use a Star Alliance RTW fare (e.g. RWSTAR).

Minimum duration wins and must be bookable... Is it even possible?

Star Alliance RTW tool won't help here!

Not possible. You need a minimum of three stopovers, and unless you're starting in Australia or New Zealand, you cannot complete the last international/intercontinental sector earlier than ten days after the first.

*RTW Ts&Cs

There are flights that would allow you to do it, but the rules do not.

So you're talking about something like SFO-LHR-NRT-SFO as one through trip?

That does not meet the definition of a Star Alliance Round-the-World. Such a fare requires three stopovers of 24 hours or more.

Of course you could book such an itinerary somewhere (possibly for less cost than a Star RTW anyway), though it wouldn't be the Star Alliance RTW fare. The obvious question is why anyone would want to?

Though I admit that it would be fun to try to construct the fastest such possible itinerary just for fun.

UA used to run 1 flight RTW - SFO-HKG-DEL-LHR-JFK-SFO as I recall ( and vice-versa)
UA 1/2.

Fastest would probably be something like YYC-NRT-FRA-YYC ( staying north)

I'm not looking for a RWSTAR qualified itinerary (I know that won't apply) - I'm looking for 3 bookable flights and minimum duration ex SFO.

Ah, okay. Then how about UA to EWR or JFK, then SQ to SIN, then SQ back to SFO? Or same thing in the other direction. Three flights, but not all non-stops.

Edit: IluvSQ is right, SFO-FRA-NRT-SFO is the way to go for three non-stop flights. UA/LH to FRA, then NH to NRT, followed by NH to SFO. Would probably work via ICN or HKG instead of NRT, too.

Close, but there is no non-stop SIN-SFO as far as I can see. The non-stop EWR-SIN is attractive though.

Let me see if the connections work and itin is bookable.

I think that I can beat you by 6 minutes. . .

Wed 19:35 - Friday 11:17

UA 930 SFO-LHR
19:35-14:05+1

OZ 522 LHR-ICN
21:00+1-15:50+2

UA 892 ICN-SFO
17:00+2-11:17+2

(Or, if you can make it with a 40-minute connection in ICN, probably possible, then there is OZ 214, 16:30+2-10:45+2.)

Yowza. Beat by six minutes indeed but I've having problems getting it priced.

I may be nosy, but what's the point? If you're trying to get it priced, I guess it's because you actually want to fly it... Some kind of "Phileas Fogg, take that" bet?

I'm considering flying it to say that I did it. I think it'd be cool (just not in coach).

I couldn't get the ICN route to price though - maybe due to connection time of 70 minutes intl - intl?

That's not a true RTW since the JFK-NRT and NRT-SFO flights are both considered transpacific flights.

Right, it's considered trans-Pacific for purposes of the routing rules, and also flies that way -- the Great Circle route flies over Alaska.
