Spain or Portugal?
Hello everyone! I'm planning my next vacation in Europe and I don't know which country is more interesting - Spain or Portugal? What is your opinion? Does somebody have experience of renting apartments there?

Some more details:
I`m currently living in cold Russia and planning my vacation to a sea. I like Portuguese culture and I would like to visit this country. But I also have heard a lot of positive feedback about tourism in Spain. I can`t decide by myself wich country I shoud visit. Also I`d like to have some proven source in a country which I can use to arrange my trip - book a room, excursions etc. As I prefer to organize all the travel detailes by myself. So if somebody has similar experience and can suggest something on the above - I`ll be happy. Thanks in advance.

Do you want to vacation exclusively along a coast, or are you interested in visiting inland cities as well?
What types of activities do you like? Outdoors, sightseeing, arts & culture, food, just relaxing, etc?

Guys, thank you for your tips! I`m going to spend two weeks there. To be honest I`m more inclined to Portugal. As it more specific than Spain (in my point of view). But I don`t like usual "resort vacation". I`m going to arrange something incredible with all kinds of rest. I`ll going through your suggestions. Thanks a lot!

A number of years ago I wanted to visit Barcelona, Spain. I found the hotel prices in Barcelona too high. There is a train running along the coast north of Barcelona right into the city. I checked hotels.com and booking.com in the cities along that train route until I found something within my budget.
I ended up about a 30 minute train ride from Barcelona, but right on the sea in a lovely small town. While I did go into Barcelona about 1/2 the days, I found I also liked walking and exploring right in the general area of my hotel, along the beach and in the small towns. One day I took the train as far north as I could go in a "day trip".
The train ride has beautiful views of the Mediterranean.
Quite a few of the hotels offered various meal plans. I chose one with just breakfast and dinner as I usually was out all during the day. The food was good and reasonably priced.

As we've had a run here, and there is a dedicated Iberian countries forum, I'll move the thread over there for more specialist attention.
