Also vacation spots in Mexico and the Caribbean are perfectly in reach with the 737-700.

But of course I'm just speculating here.

Buzz over on the United board is that they're about to end Ted. At the risk of cross-posting, that'd be it for competing with Southwest, unless UA really does plan to so depress E- as to make it its "LCC" on every plane. And those aren't the only implications for DEN and IAD, of course. (Tick... tock...)

Well, TED was never great to begin with. What's with the legacy low-cost options being rather yuck?

Of COURSE there's a difference in the route network. There's a HUGE difference in the route network. But just like there's plenty of people who want to fly places that UA flies that SWA doesn't, there are also plenty of people who want to fly places that SWA flies that UA doesn't. I fly both airlines all the time, in fact, because I often fly to places that one or the other doesn't fly. Why is this such a big source of controversy and contention?

Of course you realize that is hugely weighted toward the former not the latter. Boghopper mentioned awards, and I'm pretty sure a lot of people want awards outside the continental US.

Of course. But I'm still going to use SWA several times a year to fly from OAK to BUR to see my parents, because that's one route that UA doesn't fly.

So go out of SFO - after all, WN expects us to go to PVD or MHT when we want to go to Boston...

# of destinations served by UA / Star Alliance - 855.
How many places is WN flying these days?

Exclamation A hit x 12,000

Gotta hand it to FCFree. Was ever a thread more timely started on this board?

(Except, maybe when we were shown the rainbow between OnePass and RR? )

Look at all the hits -- heading for 12,000. An order of magnitude higher than the usual similar thread here. Got to be more than just The Team in that number, no matter how good the coverage.

You asked why the difference in route network is an issue for people. Boghopper said the clincher is that awards cannot get you to Europe, Asia, or now even Hawaii. Your statement about OAK-BUR is not an argument against that fact.

RR is not good for some people and that is one reason why. In the end though everyone has different needs and different favorite programs.

Have you ever compared prices on UA SFO-BUR vs. WN OAK-BUR?

Besides, OAK is a lot closer to my house. On a long trip, especially an intercontinental trip, I have no problem going across the bay to SFO if it can get me a nonstop. But for a quick flight down to SoCal I greatly prefer OAK.
