I heard from a couple of co-workers saying that it wasn't her outfit that was the problem, the problem was that she was wearing no underwear and it could be clearly seen.
Hmmm, another mystery solved right here: She was going to TUC to see the gynocologist and she wanted to make it easier on the gynie so went commando.

She couldn't have had a whale tail if she wasn't wearing any panties.......

They likely moved comments that were made in response to other, unrelated posts.
I thought this was a good point made by somebody on the Today Show blog. I've also personally seen worse from the weekend hookers on flights to LAS on Friday nights:

I'm a business traveler and commute between Los Angeles and Las Vegas on a regular basis. I'm shocked that SWA made a big deal out of Kyla's short skirt, when in fact the Thursday and Friday flights out of Burbank and Ontario airports are filled with "working girls" dressed in tops with cleavage down to their waists and skirts that made Kyla's look long. When SWA starts to clean up their planes, and ask all the drunk passengers to take later flights, then they can start asking people to dress more professional.
And the lady that complained about the hygiene and not wanting to be the next passenger to sit in Kyla's seat, or have her child sit in the seat, well get real lady. Your kid makes more of a mess than some young lady wearing a mini skirt. Planes are full of hygiene challenged passengers, and slobs all the time. It would be nice to see our society clean up their act, especially when packed into a plane.
It's crazy how the media just eats stories like this up, it's now front page on My Yahoo, with links to a CNN Story and USA Today Story.
I personally didn't see any reason to put much faith in the anecdotal reports she wasn't wearing underwear, but it does seem strange that both the CNN and original San Diego Union-Tribune stories make a point of mentioning she was wearing a bra and no mention of the presence or lack of other undergarments.

I'm not at all opposed to hot chicks wearing revealing outfits and I was inclined to side with Ms. Ebbert until I watched a replay of the Today Show interview. The skirt is very short and Ms. Ebbert certainly flashed the television audience when she sat down and crossed her legs. Furthermore, when seated, even with her legs crossed, there certainly was very little left to the imagination. WN would probably be better served in not acting as the fashion police except in the most egregious circumstances -- especially since this is the airline that gave us the hot pants -- but given that Ms. Ebbert was allowed to take her scheduled outbound flight and apparently was able to fly back wearing the exact same outfit without incident, I find it very hard to sympathize with her complaints. And I certainly see no reason to get a lawyer involved.
I just saw the Fox News show with her on it on tv.
I'm probably on the airlines side.
I've never flown SW, although I've enjoyed watching their tv show. I remember one episode where a drunk passenger was evicted, even though in a Michael Vick culture he probably wasn't drunk all that much.
I have noticed that I'm treated better by staff when I'm better dressed. That's just the way it is. Therefore, I range between suit & tie and conservative business casual.
Given our obsession with ghetto/trash public behavior, I suppose it's difficult to expect certain standards of behavior on a public airline. Maybe divide coach into two sections--one for Hooters/Beach wear and the other for classic business attire?
Airline travel is difficult enough. I was thinking of flying SW in October--of course in a cold climate region, so probably not too much to consider.
I'm at SMF, and the local news station (KCRA 3) is interviewing passengers about it. I almost told them to check out this site and get better facts, but decided against it.
That girl looks good in that outfit...really good. I wouldn't have any objections to sitting next to her, let alone on the same plane as her.
WN should offer her and her friends to be a cabin crew together under one condition: They can wear whatever they want. Take that concept and market the hell out of it. I gaurentee their load factors on those flights will consitantly be 95+ for the next 5 years.
BTW, (sorry if I missed it) which Hooters does she work at?

Two months to think about it
NBC mentions in passing that the flight in question occurred more than 2 months ago. This young lady waited that long before launching her PR blitz, which is working splendidly for her.
This delay further cements my opinion that the PR blitz, though probably not the in-flight incident itself, is primarily motivated by a desire for notoriety. Notoriety plus the cash that FHM and the like can pay her to show the world what little she has not already shown.
The 2-month delay indicates to me that she didn't plan to cause an incident on the flight, as some appear to believe. Rather this could be one of many cases in which an individual sees a chance for notoriety and seizes it. In such cases the individual often deludes himself that he is only seeking vindication, but that doesn't fool everyone else.

If you wear your kilt, they will throw you out. Unless you are really good looking, don't bother to call NBC about it.
As someone mentioned at the NBC site, one episode of Airline featured a kilt-attired man who was asked to properly cover his "bagpipes". That incident was more pathetic than humorous, something fairly common during the entire run of Airline.
Southwest was well within its rights to force this young woman (who is 3 years older than me, mind you) to show a tiny bit of respect for her fellow passengers since she failed to exercise common sense.
