In 2005, the passengers on the Air France Flight 358 in YYZ received 5,000 loonies a piece within a day or two.

OK.. I haven't read anything beyond the actual "happening"..
If no negligence on the airlines part is involved, what possible reason (other than ex-gratia/goodwill type stuff) is there for any level of "compensation"?
Note I do not count hotel/medical/baggage inconvenience type costs as "compensation"...that is just being "made whole". I am asking why anything MORE than that would even be expected...??

Seems like passengers were instructed to leave their carry ons when they got off the plane. This passenger says that Southwest has agreed to reimburse him for his laptop that has gone missing.

Seems like passengers were instructed to leave their carry ons when they got off the plane. This passenger says that Southwest has agreed to reimburse him for his laptop that has gone missing.

If not injured, I would expect to be reimbursed for my expenses (i.e. unexpected hotel stay, cost of purchasing clothing and toiletries if I was without my luggage) and nothing more. If WN were to throw in something extra as a gesture, I would take it.
I would certainly not litigate; I would consider it bad karma and would be grateful to be alive and thankful for the skills of the pilots.

As a pilot, I believe this is going to be the unfortunate case. Unless there was a sudden, violent wind shift like a microburst, this has pilot error written all over it - just like Asiana.
EDIT: The more a think about this, the more it could be something as simple as a violent sneeze. I think we've all had powerful sneezes while driving that cause us to grip the wheel, shut our eyes, etc. At least with a steering wheel, it doesn't move forwards and backwards; a yoke does.
I'm not at all speculating, just pointing out that something as common as a sneeze at a most unfortunate time - 2 seconds before landing a multi-ton aircraft, just feet above the ground traveling 135 knots - could have caused the pilot to nose over the aircraft and touch down nose first.
Could have been a medical issue as well.

Like many other passengers I pulled out my phone and started capturing pictures and videos. A policeman angrily approached me, asking me to “stop filming please.” I asked why but couldn’t hear his reply.

Future travel will most likely be in the form of vouchers. I got something similar recently.
I would guess that Southwest will pay any reasonable claim for damage or lost property (and some not so reasonable). They may even try to settle the lawsuit quietly. Having the case go to trial will not do them any good.
