As of 1/5/12, Ultimate Rewards points will transfer 1:1 to WN, but NOT AS CPQPs

Don't think this has been reported here yet. The fact that these are not going to be CPQPs is IMO a bad bad omen.

"*Effective January 5, 2012, Chase Sapphire, Ink and Bold Customers will be able to redeem their Ultimate Rewards points for Rapid Rewards Points. Point transfers via Ultimate Rewards are not eligible for status, including A-List, A-List Preferred, or Companion Pass Status. Ultimate Rewards points will be converted to Rapid Rewards Points on a 1:1 ratio."

This is great news. Combined with the BA switch to distance based awards, UR is becoming a very attractive program for those looking to redeem points for domestic flights.

Maybe WN realized it was giving away too many CPs due to WN Visa signups... but this will be bad if they start applying the no CPQP restriction to everything else as well (they have been lenient on things that are in fact, not CPQP according to the T&Cs).... hopefully, their IT team, er, *helps* us out on this one...

Thats great that we will be able transfer them but bad that they wont be CPQP. I would have renewed my CP as soon as they allowed the transfer.

I wish they would have allowed some to count, maybe put a cap on it at 50k, 40k or heck even 20k would have been nice.

wow. this is a big big addition to UR.

Very impressed by Chase. Continuing to go hard after Amex card holder IMO, and doing a great job at it!

I mailed this as a request to Chase Customer service about a month ago. Nice to see they are responding to customer wishes. The return is not as good as with UA/CO or Hyatt but at least the option is there to top off an account. Sapphire is becoming more valuable again.

I believe you have to have the Sapphire or Ink cards to be able to transfer Freedom points to UR points. Thus if you are only a Freedom cardholder you won't be able to do this transfer because you aren't a part of Ultimate Rewards.

Sorry, no. I am a member of Ultimate Rewards, via my Chase Freedom card. I've bought from the UR Mall several times before.

My mistake. I'm not a Freedom cardholder so I don't know exactly how those points work. After reading the below post I assumed that Freedom earns points that are separate from UR.

That appears to not be the case. I do know they have different tiers of UR points (for example if you only have the regular Sapphire you cannot transfer to the airline partners, but if you have Sapphire Preferred you can). Maybe Freedom has the same restriction?

Are you able to transfer your points now to their airline partners like CO, BA, UA? If so, you'll be fine with the new WN transfer. If not, you'll need to pick up a Sapphire Preferred or Ink card.

Interesting. I'm the exact opposite - I have Freedom but not the others, so I never knew that transfers to other airlines/hotels was possible to begin with. You're correct, the Freedom card does not grant eligibility to transfer points:

I moved most of my CC usage over to Chase Sapphire Preferred for the majority of 2011 since I have the CP through 2012. Darn....this would have been so sweet if the points were CPQP. I would have been set with my CP for 2013. Agreed, I think this is a bad omen as well.

For the past few months, the points for travel and dining have been doubled on Chase Sapphire Preferred. I wonder if Chase will continue with this into 2012?
