$39/79/119 birthday fare sale starting June 22
I just received an email from Bestfares.com announcing a Southwest 39th birthday fare sale for late summer and fall travel that begins tomorrow. Valid travel dates are September 8 through November 17, 2010, excluding Fridays and Sundays. The fares are mileage-based, similar to last year's $25/50/75/100 winter sale.
The sale is expected to expire 11:59 pm PDT on Thursday, June 24.
- Up to 450 miles - $39
- 451-1000 miles - $79
- 1001+ miles - $119

Very interesting for those of us who can fly out late Thu or early Sat and fly back sometime on Monday. And for those of you contemplating travel of 1001-1450 miles, remember that $39+$79 = $118.
This is when I love the fact that WN awards are easily split into one-ways, so that I can do a Thursday flight out as revenue, and a Sunday flight back as an award.

I have done it a few times in the last 18 months, never got worse than my second choice. After your post, I just looked at four different Sunday evening flights I might book as awards....
1. LAS-MDW, September 19 - 3 flights out of 4 open
2. AUS-HOU-MDW, October 10 - connection open, direct not
3. SAN-MDW, November 7 - 5pm nonstop open
4. OAK-MDW, November 7 - two one-stops around 4pm, one open, one not
I'm not sure what's mean about that?

It is up widely now. The fares only seem to be available when the lowest previous fare was available. So the availability on Thursday nights, for example, is a little spotty.

Fare searches were going to the "feature unavailable" page at one point.
I also had a repeat of a problem I saw just after 2am, this time on a different computer, older O/S and older browser: trying to run a second search (changed date or change city pair) would result in the lovely "undefined error."
