Tuesday morning announcement for Branson, MO (BKG) (will NOT be Southwest)
Let's wait to see for real official news releases by 10am on Tuesday Feb. 23, 2010. You will see it soon enough where WN will be introduction new cities to be announcement on Tuesday. So WN will have startup new 5 destinations cities is: BWI, MDW, LAS, MCO, DAL.
The announcement is planned for 10 a.m. Tuesday at the airport.
While we don't even officially know which airline it will be, the fact that it will be serving 5 destinations pretty much points to WN. Frankly, I don't see ECP or BKG lasting too long after their respective subsidies expire. I agree with tusphotog in that I'd rather see them in CLT or CVG. Heck, I'd rather see them open up FAR (for my own selfish reasons, admittedly )
The airport is publicly owned, with a board responsible to city government. If the Board is using funds to subsidize a carrier, there's a public record of it.
BKG/KBBG is privately owned by Branson Airport LLC.

I don't know what the source of WN being linked to this is, but I think another strong possibility is Allegiant, and they could easily start with 5 destinations to a leisure destination like Branson, as is often the case with their service, it may only be 1 or 2 times a week, not daily.

Isn't Allegiant already down there? I know AirTran is, and someone else. I swore it was Allegiant, but I'm not 100% certain.
Edit: Nevermind...Should have googled first before replying...Sun Country is the other airline serving branson.

Right after I made my post I had the same thought, maybe Allegiant is there already, so I checked and it didn't look like they are from the website. The more I think about it, I think this rumor is bogus and it will be Allegiant, that makes a lot more sense than Southwest.
Yep, I can't see WN going in down there, unless they are looking give FL a run for their money as far as competition is concerned. Allegiant does make more sense though, since they tend to go for the smaller airports as opposed to WN, who goes for the medium sized ones.

Branson? That doesn't seem logical for WN. I'm guessing that tomorrow's announcement will be someone operating a few RJ's per week.
I could be wrong, but I always envisioned Branson as a destination popular with senior citizens within about a 300-mile radius. I live near KC...we took our grandparents there once long ago. I truly didn't realize people from the coasts would actually fly there. DAL...OK, I get that. Maybe even MCO since central FL is a popular retirement area. LAS...BWI...hmmmm....

Allegiant already has a pretty strong presence in SGF, about 30 miles away. I would be surprised if they entered Branson.
Branson is not likely according to this post from January
If Branson ever becomes a destination,I'd expect to see PBI as as route

SWABrian
I heard Gary Kelly speak to a big group of Employees yesterday, and he said that at this time, it looks like we will just open one new station this year, Panama City Beach. Of course that could change and has in the past, but we aren't planning for it at present.
