WN this morning released its own iPhone app. It mostly duplicates the exisitng mobile site in terms of functionality with one notable difference: DING! You can now get DING! alerts via push notification.
The app is available for download in the App Store now.
Am I the only one who can't get ANYTHING to work? Once I try anything that involves it checking online (registering for Ding, checking flight schedules, etc) I just get a stuck spinner.

I've played around with this app a bit, but it's still lacking:
- No way to display available RR coupons.
- No way to book or look up availability of RR flights.
- No refresh button on flight status display. Although going back one screen and reselecting the flight is only two steps and light years better the multi-step process that the mobile web site requires, it's still a bit annoying that something that will be used frequently when at the airport and faced with a delay isn't as simple as possible.
I have a Gen. 1 I-touch that works 99% of applications... not Southwest though.. they won't let the app work because there is no speaker and the "Ding" can't be heard... Rather unhappy that they can't just push a notification of a ding fare without the noise.....
Uh huh. Just like open source desktop apps have taken over Windows and Mac OS, and just like open source mp3 players have overtaken iPods.
You make a valid point, but Verizon is substancially stronger (market share and financially) than At&t, and has the infrastructure to boot... Google's continual pressing on the open source button has Microsoft working overtime for a reason...
(read: just because it hasn't happened doesn't mean it isn't happening... )

Push notifications are done through the cell carrier (they're similar to text messages or received calls), and the iPod Touch doesn't have a cellular radio for those. It might support your iPod eventually, but it's much better to have something out sooner for a few devices rather than later for all devices.
