Rapid Rewards question: Is it worth setting up RR accounts for infrequent travelers?

As I posted on an earlier message, I'll be purchasing tickets for my husband, my daughter and myself for a trip to Florida. I have a rapid rewards number, but they do not. Is there any advantage for me to set up rapid rewards accounts for them? We obviously are not frequent fliers, so I doubt we would fly enough to get free flights. I just didn't know if there are any other advantages to being signed up.

Thanks,

Points do not expire as long as you earn some every couple years, which you can do with a bit of online shopping or Dining (buy a Coke). Might as well sign them up. It's essentially an 8% rebate minimum.

You husband might as well think about getting the credit card, for which he will need a RR number. 50K points for the bonus is worth around $700.

I retitled the thread so as to properly inform readers.

I have redeemed award flights using as little as 1600 points and change during the annual sale in June. So you don't need a lot of points to get a (cheap) flight on points.

Definitely sign up the family members. You never know when you'll need to buy a last-minute trip. You can also boost their points using RR shopping when your favorite store has a bonus promotion of 8 or even 10 points per dollar.
