Nationwide sale $49/99/129/149 book by Fri 6/5; Epic website meltdown, mostly fixed

https://www.southwest.com/html/promo...le-150602.html

Purchase from June 2 through June 4, 2015, 11:59 p.m. for the respective time zone of the originating city.

Travel August 24 through December 16, 2015.

Blackout Dates Apply: September 3-5, September 7, and November 20 - December 1, 2015.

Travel not valid on Fridays and Sundays. Travel to/from Florida or Nevada is valid only on Tuesdays & Wednesdays. Travel to/from San Juan, Puerto Rico is valid only Mondays through Thursdays.

Fares valid on nonstop service only. (not distance based anymore. this doubles most of my flight costs compared to other sales years.)

Fares not available to/from Portland, ME.

Seats and days are limited. Fares may vary by destination, flight, and day of week and won't be available on some flights that operate during very busy travel times and holiday periods.

Seems more limited than previous years. Out of SMF we have no sale prices to PDX or SEA like we have in previous years. Limiting it to nonstops doesn't help at all either.

I saw these prices last week, do they usually start them before the official release?

Unadvertised lower fares do exist. MSP-DEN, the second most frequent flight here is not included in the sale but price drops by a third on the sale dates to below $99, where it would be banded.

This seems extremely limited and targeted. Many of my frequent routes are not listed. That said I haven't had time to check the actual schedule and sometimes some sale prices aren't listed in the advertisements.

I newsflashed the sale.

I found excellent availability LAX-OAK for the fall, a route that had not been less than $69 for that time period.

It's weird that Southwest is pricing that route at $107 and up for Monday and Thursday (forget about Friday and Sunday) and yet feels that it makes sense to offer a $49 sale fare. Something doesn't add up. I think the $107 price is way out of line with the market. Even in summer I think the market will only support $89 or so, but what do I know? I'm just a customer.

I can fly from DAL to LAX for $114 so $107 does seem steep

I double-checked all my bookings for the sale period, and one of 16 flights was $12 cheaper.

Re-fared one of my flights and got back 3,000 RR points. I have another one to do that will return a bit over 2,000 RR points. Woot!

Summer fares may also be lower, to match this Virgin America sale:

Pretty much my experience, too. Yawn.

I do re-fare often, though, so I don't usually have high fares to begin with.

Just a reminder that if you have a bunch of small TTF's, these $49 fares are a great way to combine them into 1 TTF for a minimal outlay of cash.

No outlay needed really.

Just book any ticket with TTFs and credit card, cancel it immediately and refund the credit card portion. FWIW you can find $39 fares SFO-LAS on some midweek dates.

The $49 o/w that I was looking at priced out at only 2273 RR points, that's over 2 cents per point which is damn good these days.

I'm not sure how many hundreds of times this needs to be posted here, but look at the base fare, which is $32.47, not $49. So, still 1.43 cents, sorry.
