Checked in exactly 24 hours before and got...B51 and B52!?

Are there really that many hypes trying to check in exactly 24 hours before? With such poor position, what are the chances we will find 2 seats together?

First time flying SW, MDW-CUN.

Anyone have other tips/suggestions?

For a flight of that length I always recommend pay for early boarding.

Do so for the return flight at least.

Is it a 737-800? If so, your chances are decent.

At that time of day, probably plenty of connecting passengers who got to check in at 24 hours before their first flight.

You can upgrade to an A1-A15 boarding pass at the gate for $40/ea and guarantee better seats, or at least seats together.

Isn't it $40 and the price difference of the BS fare? I've never done it for my WGA fares because of A-list. If someone can clarify.

You're not getting the BS perks for the $40 upgrade, and as previously mentioned, it's only if A1-15 is available.

Through passengers, A listers and people that bought early bird boarding are all going to be ahead of you. If having a low number is important to you- I'd pay up for it or work towards A list. They are running a promo for it now.

$40 buys A1-15 if available from any fare. No Perks.

However, sometimes the difference between Anytime fare paid and BS available is stupid cheap considering the points bonus, boarding position, and a free drink. In that case weigh $40 versus the actual benefits of BS.

I don't get the appeal of Anytime fares. Go big or go Cheap I say.

Marketing tactic. Anytime fares encourage the purchase of incrementally pricier BS fares.

Unfortunately, if that many people are ahead of you paying for Early Boarding may not be much of an advantage. We can't know when the tickets or early boarding was purchased. Southwest is in effect running a "casino game" according to game theory. In this game no one except the house can know the odds.

To my knowledge there are no continuing/through flights to International.

Everyone needs the Docs OK stamp at departure station if it wasn't done at origin.

Any connections from EST will have at least a two hour jump at T-24 from their first flight. OTOH even with EBCI they'll also reap that benefit. Those from CST will have a similar though lesser minus the time change jump based on their originating departure.
