I've been flying primarily Western US routes the past few years. The WN terminals I like best are at SNA, SJC, and SEA. They are modern and have good food choices. Food choices are important when waiting for WN's frequently delayed departures. Though at SEA the food is in the central concourse, a bit removed from the WN gate area.

I consider PHX and PDX so-so. They're too spread out.

LAX and SFO are marginal.

SAN is awful. The Rotunda of Doom. Poor choice of eats and little to do once past security.

1. BWI - great food court and lots of room to move about
2. PHX - see #1
3. MCO - Check in lines can be obnoxious but I like the island terminals and the rental car system is a breeze for a busy airport in a huge tourist area

98. CHS - sardine can airport with like 2 gates and barely enough room to even line up for boading
99. ALB - another sardine can with a really bad set-up for security lanes

BWI great. Food choices in both A and B. Multiple security access points, shopping etc.

I hate ORF. TERRIBLE food choices past security. Wifi sucks. Not enough room for passengers. They are remodeling so, we shall see.

I'll go with what others are saying. Most of the terminals are just fine. MCO handles large crowds better than anywhere. I'm perfectly happy with AUS, as well as PHX, DEN, SJC. Although rental car pickup at SJC leaves much to be desired, otherwise it is a good terminal. I'd be happy to use it again.

Anyone used SMF? Holy cow, it is built to handle double the traffic they are getting, and WN is over half the traffic at the airport. The rental car prices are crazy, but that isn't WN's fault.

Someone mentioned how well car rental works at MCO. That's true, but the terminal with the really easy rental cars is Tucson.

LAS simply cannot handle the the volume of traffic they are getting, so I have to give it a (marginal) thumbs down. I'll use it w/o complaining, but if the schedule gives me a choice, I'll take a connection through DEN or PHX before LAS.

SAN is a definite avoid. That setup, where the flyer has to go out of the airside and stand in the security line again to make their connection is absolutely unacceptable.

I think IAD deserves love for a small station (two gates). The gates are right by the people-mover, there's a decent food selection, there's a lot of seating (unlike say some of the MDW gates such as B1-4).

MDW is just okay. O/D has to deal with Cicero Ave. traffic and then security, where the walkway over Cicero Ave. into the food court was designed before post-9/11 security, and connecting traffic has to deal with the constant fear of having a connection from A4B to B24 with only one moving walkways (between A3-A1).

san diego 1-2 gates

The San Diego set up, where you sometimes need to go through security again if you connect between gates 1/2 and 3-10 is just awful. I once saw an agent offer to escort a patient across the tarmac to avoid this, so perhaps this option is available if one asks.

Flying Southwest makes one so ill they are now officially deemed a "patient"

Finally made it to the new DAL terminal. That's one nice airport. Sure beats the old terminal!

It's available if there are extra agents and you have a short connection. If you have a long connection (I feel bad for you) they won't do it. But that's probably to your benefit since the less time in the circle of death or the rectangle of despair the better.

Make sure to ask the GA right after you come off the plane. I've had them escort a group of us connecting pax during a delay where they held our plane.

RDU certainly went from worst to if not best, at least tolerable this year.

Of the ones I've used:

Good: PHX (if Concourse D), MDW, ISP, SNA, AUS, BWI, MDW
Neither: BNA, TPA
Bad: LAS, SFO

Best: PDX, with its great food offerings and live music + on site rental cars.

Worst: SAN. It was NEVER well designed. Having to shlep your luggage outdoors, up and over the access street, then down again to then cross a street to catch rental car busses is failed architecture. Now, San Diego's airport is just overcrowded and segmented by security requirements. Add to this the scary parking structure just dozens of feet below the landing approach (who bribed the FAA for that approval?), and it is a sad mess.

Honorable mention: SMF. The new terminal is spacious and the PA system crystal clear. Demerits for a people mover and shuttle bus service to rental cars. (Really, Sacramento, with all that land around, you could not provide on-site rental cars??)

Temporary worst: LAX. The construction on terminal 1 has closed many of the restaurants and retail shops as well as two restrooms. It also has diminished the already scarce floor space by ~ 25%. Crowded and ugly. Positive points for eliminating the garden area and, thus, the resident birds.

I recently saw the new DAL... Impressive renovation. Easy in, Easy out considering the volume. Valet parking right outside the ticket counter (no idea how much that costs per day but if you have to ask...)

Only downside is on a 6am departure few restaurants are open for breakfast. I would have spent 5x+ what I did at Whataburger for a decently plated breakfast.

Uber also services DAL using the Limo pickup area..
