Lightbulb Carry on your own fix for awful Devolve seats

Several months ago, in hopes of easing my wife's chronic back pains, I bought something called "Ultimate Gel Seat Cushion" when I stumbled upon it at Costco. On first trying it she immediately requested several more (one to keep at home, one for the office, one for the car). I bought one for myself, some backups for loss / damage protection, and several for friends who also fell instantly in love with the cushion. They are great for wood seats, hard plastic seats, soft seats with broken springs, the list is nearly limitless.

This month my wife and I each took our seat cushions along for our out-and-back flights that had connections each way, the long leg being 1476 miles, so pretty long, especially on the westward version. The Ultimate Gel Seat Cushion added both softness and height to the hard and low Devolve seats. No back or knee pain, yay! As a test for the benefit of this post, I briefly tried two stacked cushions, and found the results successful (but I'm not a particularly large person, so YMMV).

Here are some web pages with info about the cushion (Costco Item #908262):
- http://costcocouple.com/winplus-ulti...-seat-cushion/
- http://winplus.com/usa/products/soft-gel-seat-cushion/

The hard part could be finding a place selling this great item. Our local Costcos are sold out, and costco.com did not carry the item. A phone call to your nearest Costco is the easiest way to check local availability. If anyone finds a source, please share.

Last flight, I used one of those neck pillows. Worked great.

Bump - any updates on whether security screening in Canada / US / Europe is a problem with this cushion? I just picked one up at Costco, and would really love to take it on board.

The main problem I can see is that the checkpoints may be inconsistent with this item; one time you can take it and another time they will consider it an oversized LGA! I wouldn't even chance it.

Just take a small seat cushion (without a gel insert), even memory foam would work, or an inflatable hemorrhoid cushion to skip any possible checkpoint hassle.

An alternative at Amazon:

Doesn't appear to be gel, and it's marketed as a medical device, so I wouldn't think there would be problems with TSA. I'm guessing you could fold it in half and it would fit in a backpack or personal item.

Update: just breezed through international security at YVR with the Costco gel pillow. CATSA didn't even finch.

Further update: no problems at Munich security either.
