Think I'll finally join RR and get some points in the bank. Being able to keep the points after canceling is a big bonus for me.

Just a bump to remind all today is the last day for this offer.

And yes, I bit on it.

It is back.

The holidays are right around the corner and it’s time to start making your travel plans. Could you, a friend or a family member use a few more points to be able to redeem a reward flight? You’re in luck! For a limited-time, you can buy, gift, or transfer points and earn 40% bonus Rapid Rewards® Points for each transaction.

Plus, you can earn an additional 2 points for every $1 spent when you use your Rapid Rewards Premier or Plus Credit Card to purchase points.

Don’t wait or it might be too late. This offer ends November 26, 2014.

There is a lot of talk about the up/downsides of buying points. Can someone explain how the bonus on a transfer works. My SO has points that aren't enough to be useful and I frequently buy her tix with my points, so they might be better off in my account, especially if there is some sort of bonus involved.

I have RR accounts for each family member. 90% of their flights are with my points but they occasionally fly.

I use the promo to send points to them so any existing points don't expire or to gift points back to me if they will not be used for a long while.

Within reason one should never be in a position to have points expire on WN. Other airlines make it harder, but just a little. I gifted my DL points to USO a few years back. Still deciding what to do with AA, and I fired CO many years ago.

Now I have to make a decision on an upcoming flight to LAX - AA to keep points fresh, Virgin to try something new or WN on one of the few NS between DAL and LAX.

If you have a seed credit you can now buy 13000 points for $357.50 and get 19500 convertible to a standard award. Not that there's any availability for standard awards over the holidays...

its odd, the email I got today sounded like it was geared just for people in my area:

"Our much anticipated new service from Dallas (Love Field) has brought nothing but nonstop excitement. To keep the celebration going, we’re offering Dallas Customers like you an exclusive opportunity to earn 50% more Rapid Rewards® Points when you buy or gift points."

I got the same offer and I live in the Dallas area.

Still not worth it to buy the points even when its 50% bonus, right?

Roundtrip flight from DAL to LAX would cost $301 using cash and 16,735 using points.

Spending $302.50 on points for 11,000 + 5,500 = 16,500. Then if I use my SW Visa I would get 303 x 2 = 606 additional points for a total of 17,106 points.

So maybe is IS worth it?

You'd get the points for using the RR Visa to buy the flight as well.

50% bonus does make this purchase option the most attractive they've offered.

This must be targeted. Is there an offer code in the email? I don't see the offer when I look at buying points.

Yeah it has to be targeted. The link in the email just brings up a page and you have to log in to your RR account. Then it brings up a page where you can buy points with 50% bonus.

Mr. drooley got the e-mail offer this morning. We are in the SF Bay Area. His e-mail doesn't say anything specific to our area.

Get 50% (was 40%) bonus points when you buy or gift points....

Just got an email today for 50% and I'm in Chicago. Clicking the link in the email takes you to what looks like a special promotional page in which you can buy points starting at 2,000 and up to 60,000 in 1,000 point increments. 60,000 points plus 30,000 bonus = $1,650 = 1.833 cents/point.
