Why is Southwest so much more expensive from EWR than LGA?

I try to fly out of EWR most of the time as it is so much more convenient than LGA. However the flights to BHM are about
$125 cheaper out of LGA.

Anyone know why this might be??

Most likely trying to build a bigger NYC - LGA customer base. I'm in the same boat and worse since the fares out of ISP are ridiculous and they pulled so many flights out of here to seed LGA. I can't see any NYC business folk getting serious about them until they get out of that dump of a terminal there and get some real business seating.

Seems like EWR is generally more expensive than LGA. I'm not sure why

EWR is a United hub. United is being stupid with their revenue management (they decided the reason they were losing money is because they were selling too many cheap seats in advance, so they raised their prices massively on many routes, see multiple threads on the UA board about it), also less flights from airlines other than UA at EWR, so there you are.

Thanks-isn't LGA a Delta hub though?

Difference is LGA has large presences from many airlines. AA/US also have a large presence there, just like Delta. EWR is UA, with other airlines running only a small operation.

Atleast on the high frequency MDW service which both have in common, EWR-MDW and LGA-MDW, Southwest is pretty consistent in fares:

Typical September faring on a one-way advance purchase

Out of EWR:
$103 WGA / $426 Anytime / $431 Business Select
Out of LGA:
$ 104 WGA / $429 Anytime / $434 Business Select

This is very different than down south in PHL where WGA's are higher (starting at about $139 but usually higher) but Anytime(s) and Business Select stay around $360 or below and never get into the $400s. So, I'd say that LGA and EWR are more alike. Even a cursory glance on HOU, where nonstops are offered from both, I see pretty comparable fares out of LGA and EWR.

It's a little more difficult comparing connection itineries. I have seen lower EWR one-stops than LGA as well (and PHL too).

It's surprising but WN is competitive on EWR-MDW-CLE for some reason selling fares at $79 in September However, PHL-MDW-CLE is double that. But then WN is more competitive on PHL-MDW-PIT than EWR-MDW-PIT.

As everyone else is saying, it all depends on the competition's fares. From my searches it appears EWR-BHM is cheaper than LGA-BHM on most days.

Supply & demand. You really want to fly out of EWR, so you will pay more.

Where are you searching? From my searches it looks like LGA-BHM is around $60 or so cheaper most days.
