Timing of Heavily Discounted Fares?

I've noticed that Southwest has run the following promo on a somewhat regular schedule:

0-450 miles - $35
451-1000 miles - $65
1001+ miles - $95

(The pricing isn't the same every time, it varies $5 to $30)

They ran the promo on halloween 2010, and just a few days before halloween 2011. They also ran it June 21, 2011 but I don't recall the years prior. Each time the sale only lasts 72 hours.

Has anyone else been keeping track? I think it would be helpful to compile a list of probable dates for Southwest's next sale. Is it quarterly? Semi-Annually?

WN's 72 hour sales are usually Tues, Wed, Thurs.

The sale in June was the special 40th anniversary sale (it was $40/$80/$120). It's likely that WN won't run a 40th anniversary sale next year!

That said, there's usually a good sale sometime in late Dec/early Jan for the winter/early spring period. The exact pricing will probably depend on how much they need to stimulate demand, but the fares (for non-beach destinations) tend to be very low.

They ran the similar sale June 2012 of this year. In case anyone is interested it appears the pattern is June and October of each year.

Did you read the first line of the main thread on the current sale?
