Arriving at ATL from LHR with children aged 5, 3 and 18 month twins at about 11pm. Can anyone recommend the closest decent hotel to the terminal? Ease of getting there is very important. We will have several bags and a buggy/stroller etc.

While I love the Marriott SpringHill at ATL Airport.....getting there means going from baggage claim, outside the terminal, across street, up escalators to the elevated tram, just a 5 min ride on tram, then down an elevator, walk maybe 25 yrads to hotel door for either Marriott SpringHill or full-service Marriott......... maybe that's more trouble with kids/baggage/pram........ so perhaps consider whether it's more convenient with family & stuff to get into a taxi just outside baggage claim and be driven to the front door of a hotel.
There are dozens of hotels within a 10-min taxi ride of ATL airport (and at 11pm, downtown Atlanta will be within a 15min-20 min taxi ride)...... near airport perhaps consider a suite-type hotel which will have some kitchen facilities...... the Marriott Residence Inn is reliable, I find. Cheers!
I would book one of the airport-area hotels that offers a 24-hr free shuttle. haven't stayed in any of the suite-type there, but that is what i would suggest...they will have fridge, microwave, some even with dishes etc. Will make life easier with the kids. something to be aware of though, is that many properties have a limit on 3 of occupants, and I don't know if they will count the little ones or not...
Arrivng 11 p.m. on an internatiional flight? You'd then have to go through Immigration, get your bags, and go through Customs. Could be very late.
We stayed at the Atlanta Airport Marriott, in College Park, and took a shuttle, but that was 2-3 years ago. It was fine. Maybe there's one even closer to the airport. Even with hotels that have 24-hour shuttles you MIGHT have to call them when you arrive if it's after a certain hour, such as midnight (i.e., they may not be going by the terminals on a regular basis). You can confirm that in advance. You could always use Priceline or Hotwire (Hotwire has amenity icons, and one should be airport shuttle). By that hour you may be tired enough that you'll be willing to pay for a taxi and use the shuttle for your return, though with 4 (?) kids, you may need a van taxi. I'd ask the hotel you choose what they suggest.

Despite living in ATL, have stayed at the Airport Hilton many times. They have a free shuttle that I believe will pick you up even late at night. I have taken it to the airport very early in the morning (the reason I've spent the night at the hotel since I live an hour away from Hartsfield). Hotel is nice.
