I'm arriving at DFW on a red eye at 5:30am for a connecting flight at 11am. Any recommendations on what to do at DFW that early?
Alternatively, I could just sleep... I don't think I have enough time to check in a hotel, so any recommendations for a quiet place where I can take a nap? Is one of the Admirals Clubs (I'd have to buy a day pass) a good place to sleep?
i usually arrive at about 530am, and fly out at 730-800 on an aa flight..
the place is extremely quiet, and nothing is open, save a newstand or two. i bring my breakfast eat it while waiting, as i have not noticed anyplace open and serving.
the tv sets are not offensively loud.
i guess you could watch tsa in action. they have a shift change at 6am, so there is a huge line pileup, given the amount of traffic.
1. Take the "Loop" riding the upper level people mover for the full circuit of all terminals, seeing flatscape scenery, Las Colinas and Downtown skyline on the horizon, and a few airplanes.
2. Amble about Terminal D for a bit, deciding where to have breakfast, and with no decision, return to your departure terminal and go to Au (not very) Bon Pain(ful).
3. Put RADHAZ stickers/decals on cases at Starbuck's locations.
They have been putting in some chaise lounges. I noticed some just south of UA gates (so below B28). Last time I came in late, I saw some people sleeping on them.
Not sure if they have been putting them in other parts of the airport, but would assume so.

the only time i have noticed cots(with AA logo) is when flights are cancelled and trap passengers overnight. i have sort of looked around to find those cots, and cannot.
I wouldn't recommend sleeping anywhere in DFW other than maybe the Admirals Club (which I've never been to--so sorry, I don't know about that). I'd have to say that DFW doesn't seem particularly quiet or comfortable (all the chairs I can think of have armrests)...and I am there quite frequently...though usually not trying to sleep. At 5:30, it's pretty quiet, though I'd say there's plenty going on by 7. I'd get some coffee instead at one of DFW's many Starbucks rather than trying to sleep.
I'd go w/ TMOliver on this one & say take the Skylink for the view & to check out the view & the rest of the airport, especially pretty Terminal D...

For sleep, look for the "Samsung Travel Center" tucked in behind the Starbucks shops near the escalators up to the Skylink at gates A13, A29, B8, B28, C8, C27, E8, and E31. These are free, usually quiet, and have a few soft uphoulstered chairs that can provide a decent nap.
They also have desks with power outlets, if you're looking to get some work done.

For a layover that long, I've gotta recommend the AC in any terminal. I'm not sure of the hours for each AC; I know B terminal opens up in the 6, 6:30 range. None of the AC's have lounge-type chairs that are really easy to get a nap in, but they are definitely cozy enough to get some work done, etc.

+1, AC in Terminals A and C open at 5:30 a.m. each day. The AC in Terminal B opens at 6:00 a.m. M-F, 7:00 a.m. Saturday, and 8:00 a.m. Sunday.
