I did some digging around the Changi airport website and there is a lounge in the public area that has nap rooms and showers - it would run about 100 for 7 hours or so of use including the room and shower access, and right in the terminal makes it super convenient. I can rest, clean up and grab my SIM card the next morning on my way to into the city, plus if I get enough rest and wake up early, the hourly cost will be lower.

Sorry, to clarify I am staying 4 days. My inbound arrives at 140A and my outbound 4 days later departs at 7A. I will be flying to SIN from HKG which unlike the NRT flight isn't really enough time to sleep, and I will probably feel like a zombie at that hour. If I could get a cheap but clean and comfortable bed to crash at for a few hours on the way in, I can rest until my requested early check-in at the Sheraton.
On the way out, it looks like the Crowne Plaza is the only reasonable/realistic option to be at the airport for an early morning flight.

If CP Changi is more suitable email them directly with your exact hours to get a less than one day rate.

I emailed the CP and they responded with a nonsense rate that was double what I could book online for 24hrs.

When I arrive usually around 1:00am I stay at one of the air side transit hotels for 6 hours and then go to the office in the morning before checking into another hotel or continuing to Malaysia. Note that you can't get any checked bags (which I don't do) and I can't sleep on a plane (msp-nrt-sin) in coach so the sooner I can get to sleep the better for me.

All unclaimed bags are taken to the unclaimed area where they are secured. When you get up after breakfast and clearing immigration you look for you bag and the staff will verify your claim tag and release it to you. You are then off to customs and airside.

Just to inform everyone Singapore international airport terminal 1 will open its doors for the new design hotel rooms and its availability in early October.
However many people have told me it will be called the ambassador. Or something else. It is so confusing why people come up with such names.
What ive been told from them it is called Aerotel hotel. For terminal 1.
It was called the embasador hotel. But then people end up calling it the lounge plaza or something. I dont think peoiple have any idea.
But ther you go.
Website for up coming prices for T1 at singapore international airport will be available early in October 2015. The hotel for Terminal 1 will be called Aerotel.
It is not call the tranist hotel or the grand plaza hotel or something. Terminal 1 is called Aerotel hotel. It was called the embasador. i was there 2 years ago and still hold that receipt with the name.
Lets just not continue to call it something different as it is not. This is why people are confused. Its not called the grand plaza hotel. Or the ambassador or so. Its aerotel Well from what ive heard.

If you exit through a different terminal - all connected air side, you can't get your bags!

Hi related question
I will be on a MR this weekend arriving SIN at 6:30am and departing at 1:20am. I booked a hotel near Bugis junction to store things, shower and possibly sleep a little.
I plan to cover the following during the layover
7am: Take MRT from SIN to Bugis
8am: Check in or leave luggage at lobby
Light breakfast near Bugis and walk around
9am: Head towards downtown core (Merlion, Esplanade, Marina Bay Sands observatory)
12pm: Lunch at Maxwell Hawker Center (chicken rice)
1pm: Explore Chinatown or Clarke Quay or rest of downtown (shopping mall maybe)
4-5pm: Head back towards hotel for break
7pm: Dinner at Jumbo or No signboard at Clarke Quay
8pm: Check out night scene at Gardens by the bay
9pm: Head back to hotel at Bugis
10pm: On MRT from Bugis to SIN for 1:20am flight
Questions:
Is the timing too risky towards the evening? I want to take some photos of the night scene around gardens by the bay and marina sands but still need to go back to Bugis and pack/shower then back to airport. What's the latest time I need to be on the MRT to catch the flight at a casual pace? I'm estimating 1 hour for the MRT ride so if I leave by 10pm I may still have time to check out SIN airport.
Also, is there any queue at the places mentioned above that I should consider adding buffer?
For a solo traveler, what's the best way to enjoy chili crab? I was thinking just a single small crab plus some buns tho it still seems expensive and I won't be able to try other dishes.
For shopping mall, is SunTec city the best considering I'm going to be in the downtown zone? Are there other places like near Bugis worth checking out?

My gut sense is that 10PM at Bugis MRT station is more than enough time and will allow some wandering around time at the airport after you check in (to me the more interesting things are on the airside). By my calculation you could get to Bugis MRT as late as 10:45 PM and still check in comfortably. Note it will take about 10 minutes walking off the train at Changi MRT to find your check in counter; note that you have wait at Tanah Merah station to change to the shuttle that goes to Changi Airport.

Separately, you should know that for the last few weeks there has been a lot of haze in Singapore that has been blown in - it's fine ash from forest and peat fires in Indonesia. We've had PSI numbers say 150 (I think it's the same scale as used in California); locals are walking around wearing N95 masks. See

So take your walk, but you might want to get some protection first - can't be sure that there will be any masks for sale at the local pharmacies in case they get sold out.
