Most convenient way to get from Malacca port to Singapore?

I would appreciate some advice. I will arrive in Malacca from Dumai. From there I need to get to Singapore (Orchard Road). What would be the best most convenient way to do this journey? Is there a good rail or coach link? I hear there is a flight but wouldn't this take longer?

You need to give us more clues over time & budget. However http://www.malaccataxi.com/ will do you a taxi for 350MYR (Ł70) to Johor, from where you can jump on a local bus or cross-border taxi to Singapore.

or there's things like http://www.delima.com.sg/schedule.aspx

(but seriously, if you're intending to rough it round Sumatra, you should be able to use google yourself...)

I am on a business trip to Dumai. I had to come here via Jakarta in order to get a Kitas card.

The ferry boat to Malacca leaves from only a km or so from my hotel.

Cost of getting from Malacca to Singapore is not important as this will be paid for by my employer. What I want most of all is to take the quickest most efficient route.

My flight back is from Singapore.

I would have though pre-booking a Malacca taxi (either the link I provided or something else) to pick you up from the ferry & run you to the Kotaraya taxi stand in Johor would be the way to go.

http://www.johortaxiservice.com/

My understanding is that Kotaraya is the only place you can then get a cab into Singapore from, but if you hire the whole cab (as opposed to sharing one) I believe it will take you anywhere in Singapore.

Only these special cabs are allowed to cross the causeway, so I don't think you can get one to drive you all the way from Malacca.

I don't think there are any commercial flights from Malacca now.

Malacca isn't too far from KLIA. you can always get a local taxi to drive you to the airport and fly to changi.

Huh? Did you try to look at map?

To the OP, here is what you need to do: as your hotel to call taxi to Melaka Sentral Bus station. Journey will take 20-35 min (depending on traffic) and costs 20 ringgits. No, taxis do not use meter, but I could try to get receipt.

From Sentral, there are number of buses going to Singapore and there are really no problem to get a ticket. However you can book/pay for your ticket using either BusOnlineTicket or EasyBook sites.

I would prefer bus to taxi ride because first of all, max time you will gain is 15 min - express buses do not stop anywhere and journey from Sentral to Woodlands checkpoint takes 2.5 hours. But buses going to Singapore usually go thru Tuas/Second link.

The journey should take no more than 3.5 hours to the Orchard road. Check above websites, some buses do have drop off at Orchard.

There are couple of luxury buses which do not depart from Setral but rather from high end hotels in Malacca and you should expect to pay S$ 35 for a one way trip. But you will have luxurious leather seat, with personal entertainment system and snacks provided.

I don't need to. Have driven it several times. Its only 130km vs 230km to JB.
The hastle of taking a taxi to JB and then somehow getting across to Singapore can be avoided by taking a more simple taxi ride to KLIA. Especially with luggage in tow it may be the better option

Thanks for all of your comments. I have now made my bookings and plan is this.

I will take the Indomal ferry leaving at 10am from Dumai to Melaka. From the port our KL office have arranged for a car to pick me up and take me straight to my hotel in Singapore.

Ferry cost 300,000 rupiahs. Car will cost 1300 RM.

Seems like this is the quickest and most convenient way from Dumai to my hotel in Singapore. The hotel (Grand Zuri) here offers a free drop off to Dumai port.

Yep, but it's going to be a specialist service to get from Malacca right into SIN in one car. Not sure of the logistics - maybe it needs a car to come up from SIN to collect??

That's 4x the price I found published for a Malacca-JB car.

It was a single driver and car that took me all the way to my hotel in Singapore by Orchard Street. At Singapore customs they just asked for the boot to be opened and did not ask me to take out my suitcase or to open it.

Price is high but our company will only allow travel with companies that have safe car, fully functioning seat belts, etc. Company was Mayflower which is approved so at least I was in line with company policy.

This also meant that he wouldn't break any speed limit, which was fine by me. So took 4 hours door to door including immigration and a stop on the Malaysian side for a quick snack.

This was a pleasant way to travel from Dumai to Malacca.

Last time I flew from Dumai to Batam and caught a ferry from there to Singapore. The Sky Aviation flight no longer serves this route.
