Where to spend the weekend near Singapore
I debated on where to post this request and obviously decided on the Singapore forum. If it needs to be moved, please feel free to do so.
I'm taking a big business trip to SE Asia in the fall. I have time over a weekend between having to be in Kuala Lumpur and Singapore. I can leave KL of Friday afternoon and need to be in Singapore either Sunday night or early Monday morning.
I was originally planning to stay in Singapore over the weekend, but I'm staying there three nights during the week already so I thought I'd explore other opportunities.
Any suggestions on a nearby destination for the weekend? I don't want to fly anywhere that is more than 2 hours away. I'd love to find a nice beach location. Price isn't too much of an issue.
Thanks for any suggestions.

Koh Samui is wonderful and has a nonstop flight back to Singapore in the late afternoon (5pm, takes 1hr 45 mins plus 1hr time difference), so you could fly down on Sunday night. I think you can also fly up from the old KL airport on Firefly to Ko Samui. Another advantage is the relatively short transfer from the airport for a lot of the resorts.
At that time of year you probably want to look at the East Coast beaches & Islands, though. I think the West is wetter.
I haven't been for years, but I found Tioman stunning. No top end accommodation though and I reckon the Ko Samui flight times would work better for you.

A couple of places I can think of, not too luxurious though.
Excellent service at both locations
Tioman Island - Japamala Resort
(small private beach, kind of rocky)
Nikoi Island
(Off Bintan Island, Indonesia, approx 3 hours via ferry/car)
Couple of other destinations over @ my travel blog with plenty of pictures, but seeing you'll like a good beach, Nikoi Island is my top choice ^

Bintan looks great! I've been thinking about my timing. I'll be in Kuala Lumpur Friday night and need to be in Singapore Sunday night. It seems like I need a place that I can fly to easily out of KL and then into Singapore.
Bintan would work out perfect if I was in Singapore on Friday.
