Sign of the Apocalypse: SQ dropping YVR!

AFP is reporting that SQ will suspend flights to Vancouver after more than 20 years. Last SIN-YVR flight will be on 25 April. I wonder which point will go next. Houston seems very likely.

There's too much competition to Asia at YVR anyway...

YVR has taken a huge drop in traffic, SQ is just making a smart decision.

I agree that IAH is next (judging by the discount prices online). Seems like the whole ORD and LAS saga all over again. Long-haul from Singapore to North America seems never to take off nicely nowadays.

Flights are still showing as available the first week of May... I guess very likely to disappear soon.

Huge drop perhaps but I was because Asian airlines had weathered the storms of 9/11, Asian economic crunch & SARS and I thought they would weather this downturn as well without anything too drastic such as route cancellations or suspensions. Maybe I'm underestimating the scope & scale of this downturn but the degree to which SQ is shedding long haul service surprised me.

the next ones to go will be the A345 flights nonstops SIN-JFK... these planes are so inefficient SQ cant continue.

its going to be a blood bath out there. This is no minor recession.

SQ has not removed all the flights yet for someone who wants to grab an Award ticket fast and then perhaps move to better flights.

I think you meant SIN-EWR and SIN-LAX. SIN-JFK is served by 744.

Not surprising given KE is going daily on ICN-YVR in April (good for me as I have 1.1m SkyTeam miles to burn ). I'm sure that accounts for a lot of SQ's business on the route.
