SIA Seoul/Vancouver becomes red eye from March 2009
 
Starting 08MAR09 SIA is re-timing its 3 weekly Singapore - Seoul - Vancouver flight. The new service will be a night-time service (afternoon departure from Singapore)

03NOV08 - 07MAR09

Looks like they're going to curb some of the routes in favor of opening/adding frequencies to other cities..

You're right the first time: the northern summer timetable begins 29 March 2009.

The YVR change coincides with the beginning of US and Canadian DST, but the time changes in North America no longer drive the beginning or end of "summer" schedules for most of the world's airlines -- the shift to/from DST in Europe governs.

The new schedule is quite interesting. The first midnight departure for north America, from ICN. Also the first, or at least very rare, red-eye flight to southeast Asia, from ICN. I guess Korean passengers prefer current schedule.

Unless you like long stopovers and another red-eye, then yes. Unless you can disembark, clear customs, and get to your new gate in 5 minutes. :) I know FT are fast but this would be a world record.

I'm assuming that SQ is either trying to serve YVR final destination paxs or possibly ICN pax (O&D) with these new times.

With the new schedule it is now possible to connect to and from other cities in SE Asia an maybe even down under without an overnight in Singapore.
I connect to cities in SE Asia 3 to 4 times a year out of YVR via SIN and always need to spend the night in Singapore for connecting flights, which I actually enjoy but adds to the cost of doing the trip.
Now it is possible to get onward connections to almost anywhere and also connecting with the flight to YVR or ICN will be much easier now from cities all cities in the region.

I really appreciate this change and look forward to flying it.

Now why wouldn't SQ introduce more flights as per their open skies agreement? Ok so ICN-YVR is capped at 3x a week. With SE Asia-YVR connections, surely SQ can justify a nonstop using 77W on some other days?

That's what I have been thinking too, especially since most of their 3 flights a week out of YVR seem to be very well booked in both classes.
I think the biggest problem with the 77W is it has 3 class configuration.
There is virtually no market for 1st class out of YVR.
Could the 77W do SIN-YVR nonstop? Especially YVR-SIN in the winter months might be a challenge.
In the days when the A340 used to fly into YVR First Class was sold as Raffles Class.
They must figure that they can make better use of the 77W in higher yield markets.
Personally I would love to see the 77W come to YVR, what better way to fly to SE Asia and spend 19hours on a plane then SQ's new business class seats.

Does SIA seriously expect to turn a full 777-200ER (disembark, unload bags and cargo, cater, clean, load bags and cargo, board, close doors, do whatever that needs to be done and leave in an hour and a half? Boarding alone takes up about half the time. Totally unrealistic in my opinion.

There's a certain amount of padding in the schedule so it will no doubt be arriving early much of the time.

And that's enough time to do the turn-around anyway.

For YVR, it is possible as the late afternoon is a slow time for international flights.
