SIA can, of course, modify the price from market to market and surcharge premium class on the A380 etc (which it is already doing in some markets). But, along with the other Star members, it has to participate in RTW ... at least that's what the info on the Star Alliance website would infer.
Again, it appears that SQ has not dropped out of the *A RTW fares, but has discountinued their own RTW fares they offered in some markets. They were able to offer these fares because you really can fly almost all the way around the world on SQ alone (thanks to their trans-Atlantic service on FRA-JFK).

I just booked an SQ RTW with the L.A. res office yesterday X/USA SFO-HKG-SIN-DXB-DME-HOU No problem booking it and gettign the seats so it may be just an Australia problem

Just curious if there was a reason you decided to book in the direction that you did, given that the flying time is considerbly longer flying west bound( of course I don't know about connections etc)

Based on what I see on this thread, this should be possible:
SIN-DEL//DXB-DME-IAH//SFO-HKG-SIN .
I am assuming that I MUST go back via the Pacific and can NOT replace SFO-HKG-SIN with JFK-FRA-SIN.
Does any one know if this fare is available ex. India or any other place in Asia (e.g. BKK) ? I would prefer to do DEL-SIN-HKG-SFO//JFK-FRA-SIN-DEL??
Im in MEL this week and I just had an agent say it was temporary>?
I hope you are right. The difference in price between an SQ only and the nearest equivalent OneWorld fare in F was at least A$3000 which compensated for the extra flying time of at least 10 hours required for flying via SIN and having to buy separate fare for intercontinental USA sector. It was the reason I deserted OneWorld in favour of SQ on my recent RTW trip. Not sure I would do it again if the SQ fare is not re-instated.
I was looking into RTW with SQ from Canada/US. For the published rate of $5,200 CAD for business class using only SQ you can't touch Australia or New Zealand, or any part of Africa. There are also surcharges for use of the new 777 and A380 Aircraft with the new bus. class product.
In hindsight it was a wise move by the Australian authorities in not granting SQ the rights for SYD-LAX. Whatever SQ say, they are all PR gibberish. SQ will price up when they lead the market, and undercut when they want a foothold, albeit temporary. This is because they have no allegiance and will leave the market when it doesn't work or price up when they capture the market. I know this is capitalism and free market, but in air-travel the traveler will have less real choices in the end.

Reason: grammar

What a load of protectionist gibberish with an ironic final sentence.
