SQ seems to have cancelled the SQ only RTW from AUS.

I'd get to ZRH or CDG if you can to fly on the 77W to SIN - it's a really fantastic experience - better than the 747 by about 25% I'd say, although some people argue it's not as nice for night flights, it's a really intimate cabin of 8 and the TV is HUGE so you might as well experience it if you can!

Oh, just noticed. It looks like there is a second FRA-SIN flight on many days operated by the 77W, so you can just catch that one and have a longer stop in FRA!

Get 1A for at least one or two of your 747 flights... it's really a neat unique private experience.

Thanks mikeyyz, I've been fortunate enough to have 1A before on the 747, it's great.

I actually just booked SQ16 from ICN-SFO in a couple of weeks, so I'll get to check out the 77W. I'm a big food and wine person, so that's a big part, and I love the 747, so I'm sure I will enjoy the new plane. I do find some of the cabins a bit tired.

Valid routing?

I'm trying to put together a FC RTW trip for later this year using fare basis code FEZSQ and was hoping that someone with a lot more experience than me with SQ could take a look at this:

LAX-NRT-BKK-SIN-FRA-JFK All on SQ metal

Thanks; and of course I'm wide open to thoughts and suggestions!

Sure.

You may wish to maximize your routing this way:

LAX-NRT-BKK-SIN-DXB-DME-IAH
or
LAX-NRT-BKK-SIN-India-<on your own>-DXB-DME-IAH

Part of my now complete SQ RTW was the DXB-DME-IAH routing.

Was an interesting experience. Almost denied boarding in DME for having no Visa. Finally was allowed on the plane (3 of us, all in 1st) after an SIA girl showed and pulled our PNR's and showed security.

At DME it was a complete nightmare as we had no boarding passes for DME-IAH (DXB would not issue them). Eventually got hand written ones at the DME info desk. They looked at us like we were insane and didn't know what to do with us.

NO *A lounge will accept you at this airport (Lufhansa, Swiss, Austrian). You MUST hold a boarding pass for one of those airlines to get in....yes, even though the Lufthansa one has a big *Gold sign out front. We were relegated to the airport business lounge which was okay at best.

The one recommendation I could make is to carry a printout of your e-ticket.

Routing

wolf539:

How're you going to get from NRT to BKK on SQ metal? Remember, you cannot backtrack on the SQ FEZSQ fare -- even for an immediate connection. And they don't fly the route directly under fifth freedom rules, or for connections, or as a code-share (and you couldn't use a code-share anyway).

Consequently, you will have to purchase a ticket on some other carrier between NRT and BKK. (SQ will, however, let you route the ticket BKK-SIN-FRA-JFK etc. with or without stopovers at those points).

Bitterroot:

SQ 632/631 operates SIN-BKK-NRT-BKK-SIN so wolf539 won't be facing any backtracking issues.

Sho' nuff, it does. I looked, too -- just missed it.

I stand corrected.

I see that Nick C beat me to it, but I'm looking at SQ 631.

Thanks to everyone who has taken the time to respond so far! Based on some of the stories I've heard from family and friends (and the one Dorian just posted), I am going to take a pass on Russia for now. I would consider Dubai, but I don't know if can make that work this trip.

How long in advance do you generally need to have an RTW ticketed to get the necessary space? I'm looking at doing a SFO-HKG-SIN-FRA-JFK route for some point in later fall.

The only ticketing requirement is a 7 day advance. If you are looking for RTW in F, the fare code is FEZSQ and you'll be looking for A class. Generally, A class seats are plentiful at any time on all but the most heavily traveled routes. I had no problem finding two A seats 21 days out from my recent RTW. Also, SQ releases F seats into the A bucket in the last week prior to departure depending on the load.

Based on my recent trip Singapore JFK-FRA-SIN-HKG-SFO First Class with pics, and as others have opined, while any SQ F experience is wonderful, try for the 77W on as many legs as possible, and most certainly the SIN-FRA leg.

The local SQ sales office in SFO is most helpful as you can't book a RTW online and the 800 number goes to India.
