Thanks Singapore_Air. Would have loved to get on one of the new birds. Still will make the most of the adventure. Thanks for that link re bulkheads but no pics there. Still looking for Y class bulkhead pics.
Does anyone now if the Rome-Singapore leg is often less full in september than the Athens -Singapore leg?

How likely will SQ234 change back from 77W for Dec'08 travel?

We're thinking about booking a trip to Europe in Dec 2008. Currently SQ234 is operated by a 77W. It's not an ideal connection for us but I could maybe convince Mrs Sydfly to book this flight given it has new F seats. However, if they decide to change the aircraft again (as they seem to do quite frequently) I'm in trouble

So, any idea how likely this could be downgraded to a 747 or maybe upgraded to a 380 with us having to change to another flight?

I don't think the new 4th SYD flight will be downgraded to a 744 with the way SQ is gradually leaning away from the 744. An A380 "might" be a possibility but I don't see that happening anytime soon.

Is the 77W the same as the 772ER? If not, which type is better in First?

Nope. 77W = 777-300ER, is 3 class and has the new products in all 3 classes.

777-200ER (as listed as such by SQ) is 2 class (no first) and has the older generation longhaul product (but still better than regional product).

772 (as listed as such by SQ) is actually 777-200ER but with different config (regional product) as is 773 (777-300 not ER).

In descending order the best first class on SQ are

A380
77W
747

<big gap>

777 (where available)

No.. they are not the same....The 77W is bound to be better in First.....

EDIT:.. Beaten to the punch!

And while we are discussing these seats... I'm booked on SQ 16 in a few months time (will be only my second trip with SQ.. the first is in a few weeks on the 380.. but only in Y...)... I booked through a "third party" site which let me select a seat.. so I picked 11A...

Will I get to keep it.. or is it a seat "reserved" for SQ elites? Doesn't really matter of course... they ALL look good... but it would be nice!

If you are confirmed on that A11 then you'll most likely be fine unless they perform a bizzare aircraft switch (which is highly unlikely anyways).

I thought the new 777 (77W) should have better First (and C) than the 747. Is that what you meant to say?

My order for best First/Business would be

A380
77W

big gap

747
777-200ER (only C)

big gap

777

I have the choice of flying to Singapore from Montreal, either through Newark or Paris. I will be travelling in J class.

Which route would you recommend based on seat comfort, etc.?
EWR - SIN on SQ 333 (777-300 ER)
CDG - SIN on SQ 21 (A 340-500)

Thank you for your advice.

Depends on what you want. On SQ in business

77W seat is much wider than A345 seat
A345 seat has much more legroom than 77W seat
77W seat is true lie flat but A345 is flat on a slope
IFE is a newer version on 77W than on A345 (but A345 has still one of the best IFE's anywhere)
Lounge in CDG is rubbish, lounge in EWR so-so.
EWR-SIN is a long flight without stopping (which some people prefer and others hate)
Which provides the better schedule for you?

Thanks for the info. The connection/routing is fairly comparable for me either way. The flight from YUL to CDG is on AC with their new cabin and lie flat seats (very nice), so that is one advantage to that route.

The key thing for me is seat comfort as I know SQ service will always be good. The lie flat seats that slope, I have never found comfortable, but I have not tried the ones on the SQ A345. I'm an average height woman so perhaps the leg room is not so important on the 77W.

Thank you again.
