SQ fuel surcharge on award flight
SQ has some funky fuel surcharge calculation for award flight LOL
I want to book SFO-SGN in F:
Full Route is 117k SQ miles + a whopping $367 surcharge for SFO-HKG-SIN in F, then SIN-SGN in J (no F available) (mixed class booking), but they charged 71K SQ miles + only $23 surcharge for SFO-HKG in F.
I am thinking of using 15K BA Avios + $50 surcharge for CX J from HKG - SGN.
I am worried they wont interline luggage and will become a big hassle later on. Should I suck it up and cough out more miles and money for SQ route or mix/match? Advice please? Thanks

I expect SQ would through check your luggage through to CX @ HKG.

I'm lucky to originate from Manila since YQ isn't allowed by law... a recent MNL-LHR award I redeemed cost me USD 64 round-trip (since I have to pay a Php 1,620 around USD 32 travel tax which non-residents/non-citizens are exempt from), though finding availability for MNL-SIN is tough on F since only 1 flight has F and a lot of people backtrack from Manila to avoid the surcharge of originating from SIN.

the YQ change is indeed high for redemptions.
If you think of it, SQ redemption rates are some of the cheapest (in terms of points). Southeast Asia to USA is around 80 -85K in redemptions in J meanwhile with SIA its 68-72K. So the charges make up for the points.... Something to keep in mind.

SQ would be the most expensive if you need to fly somewhere other than the 4 US cities they fly to, and you need to redeem a Star Alliance award ticket from SQ. That would be 195k round trip in J, with no discount.

AA's new chart is 140k RT to SE Asia. UA is 160k RT on partner flights but only 140k on its own metal. UA flies to Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam (or even Hong Kong if you consider HK part of SE Asia).
SQ is one of my favorite airlines, so I won't argue with you on that.
