Dare I say it is not horrible though certainly not stellar. 25k mls to Cape Town can be decent value same as savings for some other long-haul places like ZRH, IAH or so. Heck even CGK can go for 700$ RT quite regularity if you want SQ (don't argue based on Lion Air fares or so) so if you got flexibility to take the specified flights and can bear Y (which on SQ is one of the better ones) it is worth a consideration.

It's only 35 %
Anyhow, it's not a 50% saving. Online bookings normaly already reduced by 15 %, and now it's 50 %! So the saving is only 35 %.
And the savings on may routes are almost impossible.
Example HKG-HKT. With the given evening flight from HKG to SIN, you never find availability for the MI flight from SIN to HKT.
