SIN-FRA-JFK vs. JFK-FRA-SIN in Suites...+s and -s?
Hi,
I'm considering an attempt to book SQ suites class on this route. I've been drawn to the JFK outbound primarily because it looks like the flight times are more appealing (8pm departure from JFK, midday from FRA to SIN versus midnight departure from SIN). Seems like the ex-SIN outbound would be more sleeping, less enjoying of the Suite. However, availability for awards redemption seems more open.
I know there are lots of TR on SQ Suites, but I've come across nothing SIN-FRA-JFK (though the last leg has a few) that would give me the "whole" perspective.
Can anyone please share some of the advantages and disadvantages of departing from either FRA or SIN?
Thanks.

I would vote for definitely flying from SIN. You get access to The Private Room which is huge and while the VS Clubhouse is nice its no FC lounge/Private Room at SIN by a long shot. I think when you are talking about a 20 hour flight from either direction there is going to be plenty of time to enjoy the suite and time to sleep no other way you look at it. So in my opinion flying from SIN is better.

I for one was underwhelmed by The Private Room at Changi. Nice, but did not quite meet the "wow" factor for me.

I've flown it twice in the last 2 years
+ Seats are nice
+ SIN-FRA-JFK award availability is pretty easy to find
+ SIN F check-in
+ SIN is a nice airport but...
+ Late night departure = more time in the city
+/- TPR is nice but I prefer the regular F lounge. No wow factor like LH FCT. Late departure also means I don't have to eat at the lounge. As nice as it may be, there's much better food to be had in the city. If you want better South East Asian food, there's better food to be had in the terminal.
- FRA Lounge is a SEN lounge. Gets crowded with J passengers. Can't believe SQ won't pony up the money to LH to allow their passengers access to one of the FCLs at FRA
+/- Lands at JFK mid-day. If you have to go to the office, it's probably not so good but if you're not, there aren't too many flights arriving at this time.
- JFK baggage claim takes forever. The last time I came through, I was the first one out the plane & through immigration but had to wait ~40 mins to get my bag.

thanks all. appreciate the advice and comments. makes my decision easier, especially since getting to singapore is much easier on a different airline (TK) for me. thai god for one-way fares on points.
i hear the mixed reviews on the Private Room. But i'm sure it's better than whatever lounge they use in JFK.
i'm going to try and squeeze on a side trip to Penang from Singapore...so will get my fill of SEA food there.

SIN-JFK is much easier on the body clock than the other way too.
You have an easy restful first night going this direction and you can enjoy the flight FRA-JFK as a painless day flight.
JFK-FRA overnight is a pain because it's a very short night. You will be tired to do anything else after that.

I'd also opt for the SIN-JFK direction. It's a longer flight and the timing is better, as the FRA-JFK segment is great for just getting a nap and maybe some breakfast, while on the reverse the timezones get all wonky with a short night followed by a very early arrival (while you have a lunch and daylight to depart FRA.)
Another downside is on SIN-FRA-JFK is no caviar service on either segment (if that's your thing), while there are two caviar service on JFK-FRA-SIN.

The "hawker center" In T3 is not bad. I had the nasi lemak there the last time I was passing through. Much better than I remember the ones in the SQ J/F lounges

There is nothing spectacular about SQ's way of serving caviar. At least LH and TG has a cart service to create a little more drama and old world luxe feel.

Actually I would fly JFK-FRA-SIN if I could only do one of the two. The VS lounge at JFK is excellent, whereas I find TPR too hot.
I believe arriving from the USA, that there is no transfer security requirement at FRA. Arriving from SIN at FRA, there is an escort to a private security lane with a single screener that can be extremely slow. Plus FRA's magnetometers are set to an overly sensitive level that often leads to a very intrusive pat-down.
