SYD-SIN 777 New biz class?

Likely travelling SYD-SIN on a Sunday at the end of Oct.

Had looked at SQ242 departing 19.10. I see this is a 77&-200. What layout will that have for business class? Lie flat bed?

Is it worth travelling on the earlier SQ222 for the 777-300 which I *think* is the new business class seat?

TIA,
AX

Unless there's some equipment change before then, the 772 flying SQ242 should have lie-flat beds in business class.

As far as I can tell, SQ222 does not seem to be flying the 77WN, so the business class seats on SQ222 and SQ242 should be the same.

The 777-300 has the Regional Biz seat, angled almost lie flat in 2-2-2.

The 777-300ER (B77W) has full lie flat in 1-2-1. So has the most of the B777-200ER fleet.

If you check on SQs website the schedules you can access the seatmaps and see what specific layout Biz has. 1-2-1 is always lie flat, 2-2-2 is regional biz seat.

According to the timetable SQ-242 is 777-200ER (Refitted) and SQ222 is 777-300ER (which appears to be three class). Both seat maps are 1-2-1 but it seems that the 772 is "Long Haul Business Class" while the 773 is "New Business Class" which looks very nice indeed to someone used to Air Canada.
It's whether new business class is worth taking over refitted business class that is the question in my mind. I'm reassured that it's not the 2-2-2 almost lie flat. I've done that between SIN & HKG and it was ok but not what I'd like on an 8 hr flight.

Except for a few new 777-300ERs, the 777-300ER's have the non-refurbished 1-2-1 business class. The newest 777-300ER's have a 1-2-1 business class that has been refreshed.

On SYD-SIN, you're more likely to get the non-refreshed 1-2-1 business class on the 777-300ER though there have been a few refreshed ones used on the SYD run.

SQ242 is operated by a 777-200ER which has the same 1-2-1 business class as the non-refurbed 777-300ER. Both are lie-flat.

However, SQ222 has sometimes been a 777-300 due to equipment substitution lately (rather than the 777-300ER).

For what it's worth, at the Grand Prix this weekend in SG, the people at the SQ tent showed off the new business class for the 300ER, which they said were only on a couple of routes now, but would be on the SYD and NRT routes by the end of the year. It should be 1-2-1 already, but not this newest refresh (which seemed similar, but perhaps a bit softer and with things like the outlets moved to the side).

My two cents…

I've just done a MEL>SIN>NRT and HND>SIN>MEL loop in business, and got to experience each of the 3 versions of the J class product.

I have to say that while the newest version looks great, the IFE is not exactly user friendly. I preferred the older long haul business product. (based almost entirely on the quality of the IFE the soft product is the same)

The regional version isn't too bad, particularly if you are travelling with someone as its a 2-2-2 configuration.

Out of curiosity, which products were on which legs? (i.e., which leg did you fly on the 2-2-2 J class, old 1-2-1 J, new 1-2-1, etc)

You cant different shade from the seat maps which flights are operated the "old" Longhaul-C and the latest 2013 Longhaul C product on 777-300ER. The term "New Business Class" on the seat map for the 777-300ER is in fact still refering to the "Old-Longhaul C". SQ has introduced the "Old-Longhaul C" on the 777-300ER in 2006 (?) and the seatmap was created then and never changed.

It has been posted (here and elswhere) that the 77W with the newest Longhaul C was used on several occasions on the SIN-SYD route. But it seems that the destinations are changed frequently and its a sort of lucky draw to really get onto the new aircraft on the SYD route.

For SYD:

211/212/251/252 - angled flat 2-2-2
221/222/231/232/241/242 - fully flat 1-2-1

That's because the seatmap is identical for both the 2007-era and 2014-era of longhaul C on the 77W. No need to change anything when the seating arrangement is the same.

Indeed it is. But the question of "new" or "old" longhaul on 77W is frequently asked here. IMHO, it would make sense to delete the wording "New Business Class" from the seat map. It just creates confusion.

I was in the old 1-2-1 between MEL and SIN in both directions. Between HND and SIN was the 2-2-2 regional version. The new 1-2-1 was on he SIN-NRT leg. As I understand it the newest J class is only used for LHR and some NRT flights. So I got lucky. As I said previously though, the old 1-2-1 is my preferred option.

I am booked on the business class of SQ222. It is a 777-300ER with 1-2-1 seats. Which seat is recommended?
