How to Find Good Hotel Deals in NYC

Hi All,

Will be travelling to New York City for the very first time.

After some research, I realised that accommodation is really expensive in NYC.

Does anyone have any suggestion to a good hotel or have a good hotel deal?

Thanks in advance.

Use priceline.com.

I am off to NYC on the 3rd October fo 3 nights and the rack rate of most decent hotels was around $300/$350 a night.

Using priceline i managed to get a 4* in Times Square for $150 a night!

There are some other forums on here for hotels and there are also some specialised forums online which deal soley with the use off priceline.I'm not sure if your allowed to post other forums on here so either a mod can let me know or you can PM me and ill let you know.

Good luck!

What's a good deal in your mind? Hotels are expensive in NYC. You can stay in a nice hotel by Central Park and pay $500/night or you can stay in a nice hotel on the east or west side of the the City and pay $250.

There are just too many variables to consider when you're in NYC. I personally have found that the Hilton Millenium by Ground Zero is a good value ($180ish last I saw). But if you intend to spend most of your time uptown, then you probably shouldn't be looking at this hotel.

On the flip side, the Ramada Inn on 30th and Lex is centrally located, freshly renovated, and is $120ish. It's not 4 or 5 stars, but it's a nice hotel and you're in the middle of everything (a block away from Park Ave., two blocks away from the 6 train, a 10 minute walk away from Grand Central Station). Do a search on Hotels.com, map the hotels out, see what the average price is, and then go from there. Hotels.com will also list out deals that may be going on for your date range.

Great suggestion on Hotels.com, Tuesday's they have a 24hr sale. Depsite being Thanksgiving(Nov 25th - 27th) there are very reasonable rates for 4-5 star hotels.

I almost always use Priceline for NYC. I'll make a (cancelable) reservation as inexpensively as possible as a backup, and then bid up to something less than the reservation. The great thing about New York is there are lots of acceptable areas. I always bid 4* because I know that it is always going to be an acceptable property.

For some reason quickbook.com frequently has very good rates for NYC hotels. One thing I like is that many of its hotels don't require advance payment. I was able to book the Hampton Chelsea for $129 when Hilton's website was asking over $300 for the same dates.

Unlike other sites that are booking-only, I believe that Quikbook actually pre-buys blocks of rooms, and then sells them out of its own inventory. I'm sure that this guves them more flexibility in setting prices.

I wonder about that because you pay the hotel directly. In fact the res appears on my HH account online.

Maybe a more accurate wording would be "commit/contract to sell xx number of rooms". As noted in the linked articles, Quikbook agrees to pay the hotel for a certain number of room nights, and the hotel charges and collects the Quikbook-established price:

I'm curious to know if you earned HH points on your stay?
