American Airlines Launches AAdvantage Milestones e-Magazine

Prepare to be engaged ...

American Airlines Launches AAdvantage Milestones e-Magazine
10:14a ET June 19, 2007 (PR NewsWire)

American Airlines, the world's largest airline, today launches AAdvantage Milestones(TM), one of the industry's first rich-media, Web-based e-magazines combining broadcast and social media. The new video e-magazine gives the world's largest frequent- flyer program an online community for its members.

AAdvantage Milestones will connect and engage the more than 56 million AAdvantage(R) members through a new community forum and a series of video features that offer viewers quick tours of American Airlines and oneworld(R) destinations. In addition, AAdvantage Milestones uses a combination of static and rich-media content to deliver interesting and user-friendly information related to travel and the AAdvantage program.

"Finding innovative and creative ways to increase consumer participation in the AAdvantage program is one of the company's top priorities," said Kurt Stache, President of AAdvantage Marketing Programs. "Our customers tell us they want more information on vacation destinations. We think our new e- magazine will break through the clutter and deliver that content in a contemporary, engaging and entertaining way."

The e-magazine's community forum encourages members to share personal photos of the featured destinations. Additional aspects of the community forum will be introduced with the release of subsequent editions of the new e- magazine. Over time, American hopes the vault of valuable information gathered, along with the entertainment features, will become a guide to future travelers and AAdvantage members.

The two minute video tours -- hosted by Regan Burns of Comedy Central -- feature famous landmarks and provide a light-hearted overview of featured destinations. The video clips showcase American's lighter side of brand marketing, incorporating humor through the condensed home-video style format. Information on the corresponding e-magazine includes relevant travel information and tips on the highlighted destination, along with valuable AAdvantage offers.

The new e-magazine was developed by American Airlines and TM Advertising, which is American's advertising agency of record. To view the AAdvantage Milestones Web-based e-magazine, visit www.aa.com/milestones. Membership in the AAdvantage program is free - to enroll, log on to www.aa.com/enroll.

The AAdvantage program was the first and is the world's largest frequent- flyer program. Established in 1981, the program now has more than 56 million members. Members can earn miles at more than 1,000 participating companies, which include more than 35 hotel chains representing more than 75 brands, more than 20 airlines, eight car-rental companies, 18 financial companies, and over 200 brand name retailers. In addition, members can earn miles when making purchases with one of more than 97 affinity card products in over 41 countries. In 2006, members redeemed more than 142 billion miles to claim in excess of 4 million awards for flights, upgrades and car rentals. Got a link to this site from an email detailing the expanded service to Rome from JFK and ORD. They have a bunch of cheesy videos on it with some "comedian" going around Rome.

I hope they come up with some better content.

AA wants to develop an online community for its AAdvantage members? I thought that was called FlyerTalk...

I thought the videos are great! Laughed through most of them, very well done IMHO. Nice music while browsing the photos. Unfortunately, the rest of the "issue" was lacking any actual information about touring Italy. The top ten list of sites to see was about it. Links to book your flight and news about AAdvantage and how to earn more miles.

An e-magazine touting awards travel to Rome is kinda misleading, when it's impossible to get an award seat to Rome. Does anyone else feel this way? Maybe it's just me.

BTW I thought the Rome videos were great.

All the links under AAdvantage Central are blocked for me because they link through bluestreak.com, which our annoying Barracuda Web Filter considers to be a purveyor of "advertisement-pop-ups".

Guess AA wouldn't want to simply provide links to useful content without first forcing their customers through a third party for profiling and tracking.

How can a list of "Must-See Italy Events" in 2007 skip the Venice Biennale?

(I personally don't think it's actually a good biennale, but still...next to the list they have there...)

Unfortunately, many companies think slick promos and catchy phrases are what win the customers. Too much free time on someone's hands to think this up.
