Post Airline passenger bitten by stowaway scorpion (AA MIA-YYZ)

TORONTO - A scorpion that stung a man after getting loose aboard a Toronto-bound plane caused an hourlong delay Sunday at Pearson airport as transportation officials combed the aircraft for other possibly dangerous critters.

The arachnid apparently got through security in Costa Rica in the man's carry-on knapsack, said airline officials.

The man was preparing to return to Canada from a Costa Rican camping trip with his brother when the scorpion crawled into his bag undetected.

The American Airlines flight had a stopover in Miami and no one saw a sign of the scorpion - until the plane took off for Toronto.

Suddenly, it crawled out of the knapsack and stung the passenger on the back of the knee.

Ouch.. those can hurt, but luckily most are not worse than a bee sting...

I just had one on my hand yesterday when I did yard work, but it did not sting me. I think it was too confused and groggy after I woke it up....

I can see a demand for compensation.

I don't see how he can very well demand compensation if he brought the scorpoin onboard himself!

No, no, no. Compensation for all the other pax that had to see this happen. And, because AA allowed the scorpion to get on the plane, they're surely at fault

Cheers.

looks like the article cutoff the punchline to this joke

When the passengers finally boarded the plane about an hour later, the captain came on the intercom and announced to passengers:
can anyone else see it?

"Well, we may have scorpions on the plane, but I just saved a bunch of money on my car insurance by switching to Geiko."

I think the demand for compensation was in reference to anyone who sees a sequal to "Snakes on a Plane" .

I'm new here, searched the forum and couldn't find the answer. If the passenger was booked in Q, then requested an upgrade on-board due to disablement, would the scorpion then be able to upgrade as his companion? How many miles would this require? Would the scorpion be eligible for upgrade based on the passengers elite status, or would additional fee's apply? Finally, can the scorpion accompany the passenger into the AC club on arrival, or would it have to purchase a day pass?

Thanks, great site!

(was too lazy to set up a new account under the name "scorpio"...)

When passengers finally boarded the plane, the captain came on and announced: "Welcome to Scorpion Flight 1011."

The GA allowed the scorpion, in Group 5, to board ahead of people in Group 1, though I hear this is a common problem in YYZ to some anyway.

I heard the scorpion was POed that there was no upgrade availability, even though the seat map was wide open and the scorpion was aware there was no C inventory.
