Breaking News: Hand baggage restrictions to be relaxed next week...
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/5343018.stm
Larger bags will be allowed on board, and passengers will be able take some liquids through security from Tuesday, the government is set to announce.
The new measures should take effect next weekend.
Larger bags will be allowed along with some liquids - such as toiletries, including toothpaste.
These items may have to be placed in plastic bags so they can be easily examined at security.
Musical instruments will also be allowed on board again, after professional musicians complained the measures were hindering them.

delted 'cos Phil (rightly) beat me to it.
OK, so what's the betting that the new rules will be marginally smaller than the old new BA rules so the bags everyone rushed out to buy are still useless?????

I just finished unpacking my bags, including carry-on. I found one of those small tubes of toothpaste and some moisturiser I had brough on board with me in my carry-on. I had brough that onboard my flight to London, along with some mouthwash, lip balm and the like. I thought I had threw all of it away while waiting endlessly for security at T4 connections...
So much for the wait being worthwhile... they didn't even catch the things that are supposedly banned.

I bought quite a large tube of suncream back with me from BOS that I didn't know was lurking at the bottom of my carry-on until I unpacked it at home. Sailed right through the TSA screening station at BOS and I wasn't selected from pre-boarding hand search either...

I've carried contact lens solution, toothpaste and shampoo between London and Edinburgh six times in the last two weeks. They weren't exactly hidden, either. Just goes to show what a pointless pantomime the security regime has become.

Typical - just when I have two return flights from LGW this week (tomorrow and Sunday).
Anyway hopefully that will mark the last time I have to check anything again!

Keeping in mind it was September 11th and therefore security had apparently been ramped up, they were missing all sorts of things. Going through the fast track queue, a woman 3 places in front of me walked through the metal detector drinking a bottle (of banned) water. Only as she was picking up her items did an additional security member walking past tell her to bin it. The 4 operating the fast track security hadn't noticed. The lady in front of me didn't take her shoes off to be scanned, which was mandatory. As she was collecting her stuff, I pointed this out to the security man who asked me to take mine off. He just shrugged and said "Well she should have done". They didn't call her back to scan them.
I know it sounds a bit petty, but I went over to the security supervisor and reported the team operating the fast track check. The only one who appeared to be working properly was the one operating the scanner. The two who were meant to do body checks after people walked through the detector were busy laughing and joking and didn't stop do anything with people who set the scanner off (me included) An absolute joke. I just hope the supervisor did something about it.

I came back from FRA recently. As many of you know there is the main security screening and then a secondary one for the BA gates.
I had in my handluggage some specialised equipment and (inadvertantly) two screwdrivers. I went through the first screening fine. They took the equipment and swabbed it for explosives. No mention of the screwdrivers.
I walked the 300 yards to the 2nd screening point. Same thing, swabbed the equipment, and only as I was putting it away noticed the screwdrivers and took them.
It is pretty obvious that they couldn't have been paying full attention on the screening machine otherwise they'd have seen two large metal objects ! (I completely forgot until I was repacking my bag also ).

I'll have to break the sad news to the Pelican rep---he said the other week that his sales of hard cases had really spiked since Aug. 10.
And since we're in the confessional, I got a Chapstick through two body frisks at Heathrow.

Oh thank God for that. Finally someone has seen sense - and frankly, the liquids in a clear plastic bag is a small price to pay. I really, really, really, really, really hope this works out ...more reallys than any "I REALLY hope that BP machine rejects my BP for a move further forward" moment, and that's saying something
If this pans out ^ AT LAST.
Now, who wants to go in to business with me marketing 'Security Compliant Liquid Inspection Units' in pop-up stands before check-in at airports...I'm nipping to Sainsbury's (not Tesco on principle ) to get some sandwich bags when I get back the UK, I reckon we can knock 'em out at a decent mark-up

Lip salve, toothpaste, shampoo, moisturiser and tippex so far for me without any comment. A complete joke, especially for one poor girl, whos box of Krispy Kreme doughnuts was pulled apart at T3.
