Is this a joke? How on earth does BA come first and QF second? Thier service isnt bad, but its not on par with SQ/CX

And with China Airlines in the top 10 safety obviously doesnt play a key role.

Completely agree with the above statement. There was wide gulf in service levels between a CX regional flight I caught the week before last and the following BA long haul. Needless to say, CX won hands down. IMHO, service levels at BA have definitely dropped in the past 12 months.

it shows that the demographics of people who use skytrax may not be the ones who fly SQ/CX but qantas has gone a long way since its bad old days... nowadays, i often hear how friendly qantas FAs are and how they finally manage to update their equipment.

The slow updating of their equipment and other issues, to me at least, can be solely blamed onto top management to the likes of Geoff Dixon and the qantas senior operations staff. The mindset up there as have been announced by Geoff Dixon at a press conference some time back is that he rather not be a leader and be the first in offering new products but wait till it has been established before reacting and do cost cuts as much as possible. Thays why many of us often have issues with Qantas domestic and the sometimes lack of food onboard.

Kind of makes a mockery of their Star ranking system....When their "5 Star" airlines come 3, 6, 7, 9.

I find that site pretty useless anyway, although I think in the UK QR sponsor the weather on Sky News and their slogan is "Your 5 Star Airline", so I guess someone pays attention to it

I agree this is crazy pole! Maybe it was carried out by the same company that had Mark Latham winning the last election with a HUGE majority

Or Mark Latham has found something else to keep him occupied when he's not smashing intrusive reporters cameras

Now airlines get the chance to climb the "ladder of opportunity" .

Qantas has been named one of the world's top airlines in the prestigious Skytrax Awards
Really?

Qantas was named the world's number two airline for the second consecutive year, behind oneworld™ partner British Airways.
Why mention BA? I'm sure if CX was first they will not mention the name of the carrier...?? maybe...

http://www.oneworld.com/pressroom/re...?ObjectID=7438

oneworld members sweep the board at Airline of the Year awards: oneworldTM members swept the board at the 2006 OAG Airline of the Year awards, taking eight top prizes while its two rival alliances managed just three each.
Now you have one poll that tells you CX is the top and you have another one which say it is 3rd, which one should we trust?

Qantas No. 2? What a joke.

Obviously put together by a bunch of people who have never flown that "airline".

From my own perspective, I have recently flown Qantas J class FRA-SYD, and found it to be very poor, when compared with SQ, et al.

So, what's going on?

BA doesn't deserve #1 IMHO, for me it is the worst airline
I've ever flown apart from those Chinese Airlines (that's
probably because I don't even fly other European Airlines,
and UA, AA and such, I know it is already the best among
European carriers, but in low standard comparing to VS
and SE Asian/Japanese carriers). QF should stay happily
at the #2 place, I always have great experience flying with
them and I enjoyed every flight on a QF metal, but in an
objective view there are some airlines which can be better
than QF. The #1 place should be a rival amongst CX, SQ
and EK (probably QR as well) as they're all 5* airlines,
have great service (I've flown EK and it's way better than
BA, and as good as CX, QF or sometimes better) and really
care about passengers rather than money (especially true
for EK as they don't need to worry about money at all).

If I were Skytrax this would be the result of Airline of the
year 2006:

1. Cathay Pacific/Emirates*
2. Qantas
3. Emirates/Cathay Pacific*
4/5. Singapore Airlines/Qatar Airways*
6. Virgin Atlantic
7/8/9. Thai/ANA/MAS*
10. BA
11. CI (coz it is too dangerous despite of the service)

*Place not certain, can be swapped.

Actually it is quite surprised why some 4* airlines can
have a higher ranking than 5* airlines, do you guys know
how the * grading actually works in Skytrax?

Well, it wasn't my fault - I didn't vote for BA or QF!!! But I did give a guernsey to 9W Jet Airways for domestic. Now there's a gutsy airline doing well in India despite challenging infrastructure.
