Y Class Menus

I've really been enjoying the Let's Eat threads and wondered if we could start one for Y Class menus. It's a while since I've flown United in Coach/Economy (2001 in fact) and back then they gave out menu cards. So my first question is: do they still do this? If so, would you like to share some of the menus you've got hidden away? Here are two from May 2001.

Sydney-Los Angeles

Dinner
Baby shrimp and pasta salad with carrots
Garden fresh salad with dressing of the day

Chicken Parmesan with basil marinara sauce ++ Fettucine Alfredo pie and green beans OR
Grilled Steak with black pepper sauce ++ Mashed potatoes, peas and corn

Lemon Tart

A snack will be served between the two main meals.

Breakfast

Denver-style omelette with potatoes au gratin ++ Tomato mushroom ragout and fresh fruit appetizer OR
Fresh seasonal fruit plate with creamy yoghurt

Los Angeles-Sydney

Dinner

Garden fresh salad with sressing of the day

Salisbury steak with mushoom and onion sauce ++ Garlic mashed potatoes and a vegetable medley OR
Cheese-filled pasta shells ++ Tomato sauce and shredded mozzarella OR
Chilled Chicken Wellington ++ Caesar pasta salad

Eli's Dulce de Leche cheesecake

A snack will be served between the two main meals

Breakfast

Mini Skillet Breakfast - scrambled eggs with paprika sauce and red potatoes, diced bacon, tomato, American cheese and onions OR
Fresh seasonal fruit plate with creamy yoghurt

These were quite decent meals. I wonder if the level of quality has held up since then?

We're lucky we get food, and on the majority of UA flights, we don't.

Righto! If there were a thread about all the food that they serve in coach, it would get a little bit repetitive.

Something like this:
Chicken or Beef
Chicken or Pasta
Pasta or Beef

Exciting stuff!

Actually, it would be more like:

Pretzels
Snack Mix

and on those real special long hauls:

Pretzels or Snack Mix

Beef + onion + garlic + 15-hour flight = I don't like to say in mixed company but I think you can figure it out - and it ain't pretty!

Are the $20 snackboxes and $5 drinks available now in the cargo hold?

Interesting story.
On norwegian airlines, my friend was telling me their mag. have interesting stories.
One time, a older couple was traveling "unspecified" which means that they get booked into whatever major airline and a 4 star hotel avail (travel companies in Europe use this a lot). They havent flown in a very long time. On their flight, they checked in and were on the plane. But the FAs didnt know where they are. Their BPs were scanned, and the manifest said they were onboard, but they were not in their seats. Somehow, while searching the plane, someone looked in the cargo hold, and they were sitting on the crates. They thought that "unspecified" was cargo, and "specified" was coach.
True story

Just shows you, there isnt a big difference...

I have started bring my own food if seated in domestic Y and "supplements" or "just in case" food even in transpac C. It's usually cold but at least it is my choice and I can stand to eat it.

I don't know how anyone can eat any of UA's offerings in Y class, if you get anything. Thee biggest audacity was to start charging for a glass of wine, even on long hauls. I avoid UA all together. Here is what I recommend doing, before entering a long-haul UAL flight:

go find the best DELI you know and have them make you the biggest and nicest sandwich you like, take along some potatoe chips and then take the package on board. I do that a lot when flying out of HKG back to LAX, if I am forced to stay in Y, and then 'unwrap' my sandwich, whichI get from the Deli at the Holiday Inn in Kowloon. Watch your neighbor's eyes!
