Z - for tour wholesalers (such as cruise lines or AC Vacations) where the airfare is sold as part of a tour package. Not eligible for upgrades by any tiers. No Aeroplan miles.

I was under the impression Z class fares earned aeroplan mileage based on the package purchased through AC Vacations as follows:

"Earn 1500 Aeroplan Miles with every air & cruise package, 1000 Aeroplan Miles with every air & hotel package and 500 Aeroplan Miles with every air & car package that you reserve with us."

Has this been changed recently?

The mileage mentioned above is a bonus for booking with ACV and not for putting your butt in the seat. If the mileage were accrued in the Z fare, it would be based on distance flown.

The mileage is also paid to Aeroplan from ACV's account, rather than AC. Any travel agent could do the same thing (i.e. offer 1000 non status miles for booking a Z fare to Europe).

YEG Guy is right - when I said no Aeroplan miles, I meant to say no Aeroplan status miles. I'll edit that to make it more clear.

Thanks for the information Empress - but WOW so many fare classes. It might make it easier for everybody (passengers and company) if they tried to consolidate a few fares.

Thanks Empress. Very thorough indeed.

It's really good to see that AC have simplified their fare structures as promised.

If one is booked by AC Vacations on the mainline Air Canada plane, what will be the booking code if for business class or economy seats - do these seats earn status (qualifying) miles, and could the booking code in economy allow for upgrades!?!

Thanks for putting that all together in one place, Empress. That is EXACTLY the kind of thing I need to have on hand!

Isn't it great that AC has "simplified" its fare structure so much in the last year or so? :-)

For Tango fares, E and SE can still get advance seat selection by calling AC reservation desk.

How did you find this out? I've only done it once (without a problem) but others on FT have encountered agents who say otherwise.
