SIN-EWR nonstops to commence July 28, 2004
Singapore Airlines will commence daily nonstop service between Singapore's Changi Airport and Newark Liberty Airport in New Jersey from July 28, 2004.
The flights will operate with the following schedule using Airbus A340-500s.
SQ 22 : SIN d 1210 EWR a 1835
SQ 21 : EWR d 2230 SIN a 0535+2
The current service to EWR via AMS will be discontinued at that time, but daily service to JFK via FRA will remain.

Cool. I think that means the A345s are performing well in its test revenue runs.
And EWR can now call itself "New York's Gateway to Asia" with non-stops to HKG and SIN.
BTW, can someone remind me why SQ splits its two NYC flights to EWR and JFK to start with?

That's the way I see it too.
Based on my experience, EWR is probably a more common final destination, but JFK a more popular transit point. My company's HQ is in NJ, I would fly EWR and not JFK. Even with my ex-company's HQ in Pennsylvania, many flew EWR to take a car service instead of JFK.

The loss of the non-stop superior SQ F and C product between NYC and AMS is a dam_n shame, especially since the alternatives (CO, DL, KL and NW) are pathetic. I would have rather seen the JFK-FRA route eliminated since LH is still around with a real F product...
Too bad.

Guys, I guess that all of SQ's existing 744 are incapable of doing these extra long haul flights, right...? Any chance SQ would get on the those ELR Jumbos that I think Qantas has?

And those B747-400ERs have only marginal extra range, not enough to fly SIN-LAX non-stop.

So, will 28JUL be an event as big as 03FEB when SQ launches its SIN-LAX flight? After all, SIN-EWR should be the longest commercial flight then! I am not decided yet which of these two flights to take, calendarwise 28JUL would be more fitting.
